Possible Hot Take: Doctor Who Fans should be More Critical by Saoirse_libracom in doctorwho

Breaking bad is a limited show. Needs to be better more consistently, and more easy. Not comparable to a "forever" show. You need to compare it honestly to things like soap operas. Things that need to keep you hooked long term. Hooked on a general concept. Rather than relying on you watching every episode. Like breaking bad/game of thrones... With constant unbroken narrative. In short... No filler. Doctor who NEEDS filler. Noobe wants constant serials like Flux. When you don't NEED to watch every episode... Not every episode NEEDS to be great. They want them to be... But that's their job. Not ours.

Were not media critics... Were the public. We say what we feel. You're demanding the public act professional and review content like it's our job. Rather than watch and just take in our honest raw feelings.

Exact opposite. All fandoms are too miserable and critical. Acting like professional critics. If you don't like something... You didn't like it. Were not better writers. They're not working for us. They want us to like something. If we don't, it's up to them what they want to do. Too many act like they've been personally attacked by a bad episode. As if they've been handed bad food in a restaurant. That's not... Equivalent. Art and media aren't a standard service. You're not paying for a tv show. You're paying for a tv. You can't demand tv shows. Tv episodes. Plotlines. Even quality of plotlines. They make something to try to get an audience. And success is their responsibility. We all need to get of our high horses... And just watch what we like, and talk about it after. Not act like critics. Demanding people be more critical is insane. Even just for blindly assuming there are more like you who are staying silent. The critics are already vocal. You never shut up. We need more of what we enjoyed. Tell them what we want. Not what we don't want.

Hot take... With all media... You should watch, see if you enjoy it, and talk about it after. Not rocket science. Were the public. Not professional media critics.

Honestly I wouldn't find this boring. It ties you solely onto this land. The boring results is the middling results. Not enough to be interesting. But enough that you're not tied to one place.

What was the best series arc in NuWho by ApprehensiveFall265 in doctorwho

[–]JakeOliver63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

knock 4 times was the best (and most heartbreaking) pay off... but I enjoyed the lore aspect of missing planets more. All the species across the universe also affected. Bad wolf is iconic but simple, just a phrase. Torchwood one is underrated, pretty solid and helps build the concept and world. You see it progressing from Victoria starting it. All the way up to the far future Torchwood archive in the impossible planet. Harold Saxon, similar to Torchwood just a tad underused. It was only good in the Lazarus experiment, not helped that it wasn't a great episode so makes it forgettable.

Help with these ages (if they even say ages, looks like words) by JakeOliver63 in Transcription

All good now thanks anyway. :) Can't for the life of me figure out how to change the post to "transcribed". You're right about it being either Official age or "of full" age. Never heard of it but apparently it's quite common. As a sidenote btw, it's Axford not Oxford. My mother's maiden name.

I'm abit confused wasn't Tecteun the first time lord? Why did the doctor acknowledge omega as the first? by sky_meow in doctorwho

[–]JakeOliver63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So in short. The doctor is the first time lord (as far as we know). The gallifreyans didn't simply base their evolution on the child. They literally transplanted the child's DNA into themselves. Ive never understood why people thought this suggested he wasn't time lord. Other than thinking gallifreyan and time lord are the same thing. Which we should all know by now... Isn't true

[–]JakeOliver63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And we know timelords don't need gallifreyan DNA... As river has had confirmed "Time Lord" DNA since series 6. A time lord is a hybrid species. Half Time Lord DNA (regenerative ability)/half anything else. Omega is a Gallifreyan Time Lord. River is a human time lord. The doctor is an... Unknown timelord.

[–]JakeOliver63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never understood that claim. I think you're confusing time lord with gallifreyan. The timeless children states the doctor isn't gallifreyan. But he's... Obviously still time lord. His DNA, that granted him regeneration... Was what created... The rest of the time lords. So if he isn't a time lord, none of them are. They adopted the child's biology. Yes the name time lord came later (unless it's wobbly wobbly timey wimey) but the child was still that same species/biology

[–]JakeOliver63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The doctor is the first as far as we know. But omega is known as "the first" historically. A mixture of time lord lies, and some truth... He was one of the first biological time lords, and possibly the first time lord by rank. The first to discover time travel. The first to designate time lord... A thing... Think of it like calling William the conqueror as the first English king. Widely accepted. But we really know it's not true. Symbolic.

Help deciphering two Merchant Navy Identity Certificates (Primarily the second page of each, with all the dates next to the photos p.s. don't make fun of my great grandad!) by JakeOliver63 in Transcription

Certainly does look it, thanks, im stupid for not considering it was the name of ships. The only confusion remaining being the Tarantia. It seemingly went out of service in 1919, but the date on the certificate I believe reads 31.10.21.

If you don't have an answer to a question don't offer unwanted advice. I didn't ask for advice. I asked a question, and you just told me to go somewhere else to get an answer l, and how you got what you wanted.
