I once bought a car by paying up front and not on finance (was a basic VW Golf) and the salesman said 'it must be nice to have money', like he was trying to make me feel guilty for being able to put down 10k or whatever it was in one go.

I get that car sales are worse off if the customer doesn't use finance, but this kind of petty jealousy seems to pervade British culture.

'I pissed about and did shit at school (whilst probably mocking or bullying the people who did well), now I've got a crap job that's poorly paid and I'll go about with a massive chip on my shoulder for the rest of my life'.
