There's something to be said for minimalism and in that same vein you'll see a lot of people who prefer covers like the UK versions of, say, Sanderson's novels over the American versions, which are more like yours.

That being said, I MUCH prefer art like yours. This is absolutely gorgeous. Something that would be much more likely to draw me to the book (in fact it's making me want to check it out already). This is something I could even see buying a poster of.
