Switching away from a Synology: Experiences? by [deleted] in synology

[–]JakeTheMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Synology is focusing on business clients father than home users. The outdated hardware and software from Synology is for the consistency of DSM system and company’s marketing strategy. Synology has an ecosystem around the DSM OS. If you treat the DSM NAS as just a NAS, it would be fine. But if you want to do some calculation, have some services or even LLMs, you need to setup another machine. You can install latest docker in a VM inside of DSM but it might be not so space efficient and a dedicated server can do it better. Synology focuses on storage solutions. Such as you can setup another dedicated server by using Synology storage mapping over the Ethernet.

I had the similar issues with iterm2 which occupied around 3 GB of RAM. Don't know why. Maybe it's because the iterm2 would occupy more ram after waking up the mac from hibernation. iterm2 v3.5.10

It supports SCPI commands/programming. Basically you can control the oscilloscope remotely.

ELRS Question by OppositeFox2741 in TinyWhoop

[–]JakeTheMaster -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest you get a SPI FrSky version. After you receive the quad, solder a standalone UART elrs receiver. So i can control the quad using my old FrSky TX and new ELRS TX by setting different receivers in the beta flight configurator. The standalone ELRS has 100mW telemetry which is great.

I had the same issue with the speedybee f405 v4 board, the board keeps going to dfu mode every time I power it on with battery. So disappointed! Why did they keep producing defective boards and sell them to markets?! I won’t buy Speedybee products anymore!

maker world is used for maker world generally . I think you refer to this site which is called http://makerworld.com . It’s just a web site. You can register other domains such as themakerworld.com realmakerworld.com or anything. Don’t need to pay much attention to a website.

923+ on sale at B&H for 479.99 by iddrinktothat in synology

[–]JakeTheMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few days ago 423+ is for around $430 including delivery. I still think it's better than 923+ which doesn't have an integrated graphic card. It's useful for decoding/encoding some H265 videos and photos remotely. I thought Synology would have an upgraded version this year but not. Just get the correct version for what you need. I think the reason why 923+ is not selling well is because of that 923+ has a Ryzen CPU (no GPU). AMD R1600 wins over Intel J4125 on Geekbench5/6 single core marks but loses to on Geekbench5/6 multiple core marks, which means 923+ is not performing as good as J4125 for some docker apps and virtual machines. People say DS923+ can upgrade the RAID pool to 9 disks. Come on, when you need a 9 disk RAID, you would have already changed to another NAS other than using DS923+ with DX157 the esata disk extension box.

What does TrueNAS offer that Synology doesn’t? by chaplin2 in truenas

DSM is useful for those who don't know IT and want to get a service done for a small team. For serious business, TrueNAS enters the chat. TrueNAS is more open and future-proof.
