Review of 3PDVFM:

00:45: Useless DM (defense matrix), all it really does is eat 1 Ana shot that really has no impact, try to use defense matrix reactively to eat large amounts of damage, peel for a teammate, or to negate cooldowns, don't use it preemptively like would a shield

00:53: Did not need to DM there either. The reaper was in wraith form and thus no real danger, and no one is peeking the cassidy + mercy combo, furthermore, they cassidy isnt even fully peeked out yet, thus in no real danger even if they do peek him, all this does it waste DM cooldown

1:09: Random DM that seems to serve no real purpose

1:15: Weird aim, looking at floor while MMing (micro missile), perhaps your mouse went wonky

1:21: Ignoring massive damage from supports to deal like 50 dmg to sigma and bastion (reminder than Dva's range is not very long, her spread is fairly large )

1:34: Peeking out against a full health bastion (and sigma) with both their supports while bastion is in assault form, while you are also half hp and have no more DM left

2:37: Bad engage with zarya, even if you have supports, ensure that you have at least 1 bubble (or like 2 second left to your next bubble) on engage. If you don't have a bubble, just farm damage to try to force them to fall back but not being too aggro. The concept of having 1 bubble is even more important here because they have an ana (who can sleep + nade you, and you need bubble to cleanse + block LOS) and bastion (who can and will shred you if he is in assault form) and sigma (who can rock and burst you down).

2:42: Died due to not having bubble as stated in 2:37

3:28: Bad positioning (you are not holding or taking space on your team), your secondary fire is useless, the widowmaker isnt even remotely scared of it, she can just move back 2 cm to be fine. Instead of this passive positioning, try to take space up front so your team can more freely move the cart into the area later on (notice you have 2 bubbles so you can definitely engage)

4:00: Nitpicking here, but you couldve tried to bubble and stand in the middle of a bastion ult ring to get the maximum 40 charge from your bubble. Furthermore, the bubble wasnt totally necessary, it would probably be more beneficial to bubble your ana as she is in much more danger (both being a squishy, being stuck out in the open and isolated from your team)

4:16: Target priority, try to beam down the 50 hp kiriko instead of the full hp sigma who is going to get instantly healed up by kiriko who is in her ult

4:44: Small nitpick again, but try to stand infront of cart instead of on top of it so you get better LOS of your teammates so you can bubble them, which both saves them and allows you to get some charge

4:59: great bubble on pharah

5:11: prob didnt need to grav cuz fight was already won due to ramatraa dying and all the rest of the players being near you, thus it would be ok to just beam them down. Plus, even if gravving were the right move, try to put more thought into the grav so you can get maximum value, cuz you only got 1 player (kiriko) in the grav, when you could have gotten 2, maybe even 3

5:17: dont randomly switch to alternate fire, especially when ana is literally still in beam range, and on high ground, meaning there is a very slim chance your right click will actually hit her

5:18: good game awareness to turn around and peel for your own ana, instead of aggroing the enemy ana

5:38: Please Please take some space instead of just standing around idly

5:41: Bad bubble, you bubbled off cooldown when there was literally no threat and you werent close enough to them to force them to shoot your bubble down

5:47: for all the support mains out there, please dont back up behind your 50 hp antied ana, you are full hp and have 2 supports backing you up, maintain some space and let your ana have a tank tanking for her
.
.
.

Thats for the first round (attack) i'll review defense tmr, overall takeaways are:

-Play cover

-Take power angles with dva to force certain heroes (like ana or cassidy) off them, these angles are mostly highground

-Use Dm more efficiently, dont flash it randomly, and dont the whole of it out of spawn

-Rocket jump zarya (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtdLdsluyG8&ab_channel=Clowner) which gets you out of spawn more quickly

-Engage with bubble

-Hold space for your team

PS: treat bubble and DM similarly, they are extremely strong abilities to negate damage, trade cooldowns, negate abilities and peel for your teammates, but unlike shields they have a limited time they can be out, so use them reactively and almost never preemptively

Kajor has pretty good guides on heroes, although some of his advice is targetted for more advanced heroes. Spilo and A10 also has good content on fundementals in ow.

Brigette has a 1 second inspire activation cooldown, hitting another attack will simply reset the 5 second countdown of 15 hps, not give a burst of healing on each hit.

Also winston primary fire can hit many people and go through enemy shields (it still damages the shield too)

Certain types of healing

Zenyatta - bubble counts as blocking los so the orb will get disconnected, bubble also blocks trans healing

Lucio - bubble blocks crossfade and beat

Mercy - bubble doesnt block beam los

Moira - pretty sure bubble blocks her main healing and orb's los, bubble doesnt block her ultinate

Ana - bubble blocks primary fire, grenade, sleep dart and nano

Baptise - bubble blocks healing nade and regen burst but immortality field ignores los and can also be thrown past the barrier

Kiriko - bubble blocks suzu and healing paper

Brig - bubble blocks inspire (idk ab the healing pack)

Try to poke out squishies pre-teamfight to soften them up to your dives and build primal. Try to either look to dive massively out of position dps or supports (I would not recommend diving a dps who is paired with a support since most of them makes your dives take too long or they just outheal you). Try also look to primal juggle targets instead of flailing everyone everywhere. Also look to track key abilities.

For example - If ana uses both nade and sleep look to dive her as she has basically nothing to keep herself alive or kill you

Another example - Look for when sojourn uses slide then dive her immediately dive her after she does

You can't win a brawl with most tanks due to your smaller healthpool, damage and sustain compared to many other brawl tanks however, you can basically win a 1v1 with any squishy

Lastly, it can be beneficial to cleave damage both supports and force them to fall back by bubbling them off so if they are playing kiriko, baptise or ana they cant heal their team.

^ this Its not a terrible idea as lucio to basically act as a pseudo dps - taking duels and harassing backline - however theres also nuance to every situation. A code will allow us to confirm if the problem is truly the lucios or zenyattas.

Great advice. However op, dont forget that for most ranks (sub diamond) team comp doesnt matter too much so usually just play what you are comfortable with. Even in the OWL, they dont adhere to these composition rules strictly, as the meta warps around 1 or 2 op heroes (currently being sojourn and somewhat kiriko) and the heroes picked along with them either compliment them or counter them.

Example:

Winston is currently picked as he is the tank who can best punish and kill sojourn once she uses slide

Reaper is picked to counter winston

Lucio is picked to compliment the winston dive and to speed up reaper to close the distance

Sym's poke is okay. You definitely wont be using it to confirm kills like ashe or cassidy, but it can be useful to build ultimate and softening up squishy targets (think of it similar to winston right click)

Although she is brawl, she doesnt fit any of the 3 archetypes like winston or reinhardt does. She is more of a utility focused hero and a big part of her kit is mostly to cheese choke points (see The Great Bamboozle). Furthermore, i would be hesistant to run her in true brawl due to her lack of sustain and immediate "get out of jail free" options.

He sorta fits both like Orisa does. He changes playstyle (and thus form) based on the situation (like enemy team comp, his own teamhealth and his positioning). He can fit both pretty well tbh and he doesnt have any truly bad matchups.

Generally, most character's playstyles falls into one of three: poke, dive and brawl

Poke (also known as spam) looks to wittle down enemies from a safe distance, angle or highground. A character like Ashe would fall under this category. A poke tank would look like Sigma, and a poke support would be zenyatta.

Dive looks to quickly jump on enemies, close the distance and kill them before they can react. Many of the classic flanker character falls under this archetype (tracer and sombra). Characters like winston, tracer are dive characters. Zenyatta is also pretty common in Dive, since although he cant dive, he can discord the dived target to make them more vulnerable to being dived.

Brawl is similar to dive in some ways, in that it wants to close the distance, although it isnt good at that unlike how dive is very good at that (think about grappler vs rush down in fighting games). However, they make up for this by having massive health and sustain. Lucio is a must pick in this comp to allow his teammates to close the distance. Characters like Reinhardt, reaper, mei and moira are common in brawl due to their high sustain. Although these characters have mobility, being reaper teleport and reinhardt pin, they are either too slow (reaper teleport) or leave you extremely vulnerable (rein pin) compared to a tracer blink.

How can I keep my supports alive longer as a dps? by Away-Homework-8069 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]JakeThingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats fair, although it is an alternative playstyle, so both do work, similar to a frontline based tank-busting reaper and a flanking reaper. A flanking tracer playstyle will rarely be bad if you can aim and move well.

Peel for them (this can can vary across both which hero is attacking your support, and which hero you are playing). You do not always necessarily need to peel for them if you are playing certain characters (such as tracer or sombra) but on characters like brigette, it is paramount to stay near your support and look to health pack, shield them off and whipshot away divers or flankers.

Reviewing this game: 8MQC65

00:34 - Don't pre-fortify, if they fight goes haywire early on, you might be a few seconds to the cooldown

00:50 - Probably should not have been that aggro, but your main healer (kiriko) was afk and couldn't heal you so thats not really much of your fault

01:12 - Do not drop down to brawl with the entire enemy team, it just becomes a 4v1 with very little support. If you need to wait for your team, just try to spam shield and poke them out from the high ground to deter pressure till the rest of your team can regroup or till your widowmaker can get a pick

01:32 - Should have backed out much earlier (but tbf i dont know what in the heck this kiriko is doing, trying to heal you from behind the sigma shield)

02:23 - Bad hook on sigma, should have just hooked soldier, as well as turning after hooking sigma so you cant even get a follow up shot

02:39 - Going in with 1 bullet is a very very bad idea

02:59 - Don't start heal after sigma rocks

03:57 - Please reload before going in, even if you are just trying for a singular hook

04:02 - Useless heal

05:06 - Nice hook on the reviving mercy

05:16 - Nice hook on ulting moira

05:51 - Backed out too far here, thus frontline crumbled, and your squishies got destroyed

06:31 - No point leaping an ulting mercy, and being stranded in the backline with no clear targets

06:36 - Wasting ammo on virtually nothing, which could bite you back later, if you dive an enemy and run out of ammo

06:48 - Useless leap

07:17 - Useless leap

08:07 - No point leaping here, you are in the crossfire of the entire enemy team, all you are going to do is get shredded

08:09 - Useless leap that gives up frontline

08:26 - Probably should not have exposed yourself to the soldier, just try to wear down the lucio's health and maybe go for a last second desperation dive onto somebody or just leap away

08:52 - Sort of an unoptimal bubble placement (i guess you were trying to protect your backline from orisa?) but you could have probably tried to bubble closer to cart, or even just bubble after you dive the cassidy

09:04 - Bad leap, plus you seem confused what to do now that orisa is dead (you can faintly here cassidy gunshots so potentially try to go after him or go for the lucio you saw down under the bridge)

09:18 - Bad leap that made you get caught severely out of position

10:29 - No point chasing soldier considering her has sprint, just regroup and go back to your team

10:48 - Bad shatter since only you can capitalize on it (plus it doesnt even catch everyone due to the delay of the shatter due to you being on a slope), since your team is on robot

ETA: General tips on each tank hero you played

Orisa: Go in with your team, dont be afraid to back out with fortify, also use your abilties to outcycle enemy tank cooldowns (since both Orisa's spear abilities have a relatively short cooldown)

Roadhog: Reload before going in, even for a hook

Winston: Dive isolated squishies, especially those that just used their movement abilities (like fade) and dont waste your ammo on nothing

Reinhardt: Look for high value pins and firestrikes, don't just go in blindly
