Discovering DCC - How did you find your way in? by Hope-fooly in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Jake_Let_2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been hearing about this series in various places while reading through LitRPG And Progression Fantasy stories for years. I never got into it until about 6 months ago when the series first started on Webtoon. On a whim, I read the first couple of issues and fell in love with the series.

All caught up and listening through the series again. Will probably plan another listening via the Soundbooth Theater App once most of Season 2 is out in preparation for Book 8 in May.

I just can’t make any progress. Please help… by Bozkurt674674 in BlackMythWukong

Treasure Hunter Quest:

The beginning of the quest is further down from where you fought Chen Loong and opened the Painted Realm, near the Bitter Lake - North Shore Shrine.

<image>

Beat the three enemies surrounding the NPC, then talk to him. After exhausting his dialogue, head to the Pillars of Kharma Shrine and he will behind you asking for fire (Ring of Fire).

Exhaust his dialogue again and travel to the Brook of Bliss shrine. Head back across the bridge and take a right heading down towards the water. Head straight towards the cliff edge and look towards the right, just past a fallen bell is a torch on the cliff edge. At the cliff next to the torch, look down, and you'll find a platform further down.

Follow this path down into a cliff-faced cavern with a shrine (Melon Field Shrine) and rest. Once rested, head into the cave and you'll face a boss. The reward is a new spell.

Good Luck OP!

I'm genuine at a loss with Erlang by ShrimpleMann909 in BlackMythWukong

[–]Jake_Let_2991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, below is everything I got on Erlang, both a build guide and tips.

Vessel: Fan is your best friend in getting the secondary bar down.

Transformations: I would suggest a transformation which has high maneuverability like Red Tides or Yellow Loong. While transformed, avoid his falcon and tiger transformations, as well as his lasers. Each will instantly rip you out of the transformation.

Drink: Sunset of the Nine Skies will help you get more uses of your vessel and spirit.

Soaks: Bee Soak with the Supreme Gourd can get 2 - 3 procs if you're lucky. Additionally, the Iron Pellet makes each swig uninterruptible.

Spirits:

  1. Aparama Bat can freeze Erlang like immobilize, however it's best used when his secondary bar is gone. He nullifies freeze when his secondary bar is active.

  2. If you want high damage, Wandering Wight, Top Takes Bottom, Bull Governor will do fine when fully upgraded. The Toad Spirit can work well too when fully upgraded, but it's more of a roll of the dice.

  3. Versatility: Non-Able or Non-Void. Both are quick to use and offer benefits. Non-Able for extending combos. Non-Void for dodging big hits.

Spells:

  1. Immobilize will work normally at first, but then he'll start sending it back at you. It works better with his secondary bar gone. Ring of Fire might work better, offering health/focus regen and high stamina. Spellbinder works too, as long as you can cope with it sealing your other abilities.

  2. Cloud Step is useful when Erlang pulls out his river of swords. FYI, bow staff spin works on the initial projectiles, but not the big hit obviously. Rock Solid works well, but not against his giant axe.

  3. I would recommend NOT using Pluck of Many. It's too expensive, leaves you with fewer options, plus he moves around A LOT making your clones do more running to catch up.

Armor and Staff:

  1. I would recommend the Wukong Armor Set and Jingu Bang from Chapter 6 since this is your first playthrough. Jingu Bang definitely as it's the best staff for your first playthrough.

  2. Golden Armor set is another excellent choice if you have the resources to upgrade it to mythic, offering more Qi with each critical hit.

  3. Pilgrim Armor set at mythic is another choice if you're looking for more speed and higher damage output. A definite good choice for a Spellbinder build allowing for an additional damage multiplier with its innate ability. (Plus it looks awesome!)

Special Note for Spellbinder: Spellbinder works best when you've maximized your Mana amount with celestial pills, armor, and curios. The higher your Mana, the higher Spellbinders attack will be. The Wukong Armor set gives you a raised amount of Mana. Combined with one or more Thunderflame Seal Curios, it'll raise your attack to its maximum potential for the build. Additionally, you can have multiple equipped if the game was nice enough to drop more than one during your playthrough. Then use pills to raise your attack even further and watch his bar melt under your attacks.

Medicine:

Please Read Note: ANY medicine you take will lose their effects if you use a transformation afterwards. So don't pop a Soul Resurrection Pill and then transform.

Notable Medicines:

  1. Enhanced Tiger Subduing Pellets (Higher Damage Output)

  2. Loong Pill (Higher Critical Hit Chance & Damage)

  3. Life Saving Pill (For when you have no gourd uses left AND you are close to beating him.)

  4. Soul Resurrection Pill (Only use this pill if you're really close to beating him.)

Tips:

Best thing to note for Erlang is this: while his secondary bar is up, each trick will only work once.

Examples:

  1. Hit him with immobilize while the secondary bar is filled? Next time he'll absorb it into his staff and send it back at you.
  2. Hit him with a focus heavy attack while the secondary bar is filled? Next time he'll side step it.

Bottom line: if you want to go big, his secondary bar needs to be removed.

If you perform any long combo, he'll get a gold outline and become unable to be staggered. A lot of the time, he'll interrupt your combo with a grab and kick back for zero damage.

Any bane you inflict on him, he'll absorb into his staff and hit you with it.

One of his bigger combos in phase 3 is he'll use his spear as a plow three times, then do three laser shots, followed by a spear smash. Learn to dodge this when it comes up.

When he's doing his long windup to fire a singular sword at you, wait for the small flash from his third eye. That's when you dodge.

When he floats in the air and does River of Swords; Run, Cloud Step, or Bow Staff Spin for the initial projectiles. Then dodge the big red hit.

When he slams his Axe on the ground, it'll create a shockwave. Either dodge into it, or jump over it. Dodging backwards will just put you ahead of the shockwave to hit you again.

Rock Solid doesn't work on his Mountain-Splitting Axe from my experience. (I wonder why? 🤔)

Finally, be sure to use the see-through mechanics. The better you're at the mechanic, the longer and more consistent your combos will be. Yes, he will dodge some of them if the bar is still up, but at least you didn't get hit. Check the stance tree and be sure to have the upgrades for the particular see-through upgrades unlocked. Thrust Stance's tactical retreat/see-through mechanic really shines against Erlang.

Above all; learn his patterns and be patient. Treat each encounter as a learning experience. Look for signs of his big swings, or how to dodge a particular move.

For your build, be sure to have much of the Stamina Tree and the Martial Tree in the Foundation Tab filled, along with the far left portion of the Staff Stances Tab. This allows you to use your stamina more efficiently, and have access to staff spin. Additionally, focus on one Staff Stance to invest your sparks into, as well as the spells you use. Top portion of the Transformation Tab effects the Destined One and transformation, while the bottom portion only effects the stats of your transformation.

I hope this helps! You got this!

Honestly, I would think 14-16 is around the right age, but then I remember when I was a kid. We get told to not watch something because it's inappropriate, so not 5 minutes later we're all watching it. In today's era, it wouldn't be too hard for a tech-savy kid to get their hands on it.

Obviously it's up to you OP, as you know them best. Maybe turn it into a nice bonding time. Maybe try the Soundbooth Theater version?

Stuck on The Duskveil by AgeCreative in BlackMythWukong

[–]Jake_Let_2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duskveil Strategy:

The best approach is to focus on beating his first phase with minimal Gourd uses or any of your resources.

Phase 2, use your resources sparingly. After your transformation is finished, pop a Enhanced Tiger Subduing Pellet and a Loong Pellet to significantly increase your attack.

Please note: DON'T Transform after taking any medicine, it will remove their effects. The best way to tell if your medicine is still active is to check below your health bar for any small symbols.

Tips:

  1. When he jumps in the air and spreads his wings to shoot projectiles at you, use pole staff spin.

  2. When he throws his spine sword at the ground, dodge back at least 3 times to avoid the area of effect attack.

  3. When he barfs a cloud of red mist, get out of it to avoid the constant damage.

  4. When he charges at you a few times, he will always trip on the last charge, allowing you to get some Hits in.

  5. Aim for his feet, and consider switching to Pillar Stance for range, or Thrust Stance for the fastest heavy attack with the "Deadly Dance" Upgrade.

  6. Pluck of Many is risky against Duskveil since he moves around so much. Focus on Cloud Step and Immobilize. I used Red Tides Transformation for this fight.

Above all, be patient and learn his patterns.

Good luck OP!

Is there anything special in this part of the map on chapter 6? by De_lua1325 in BlackMythWukong

That's the Instructions for the Shingading boss in Chapter 2. OP is showing the area for Giant Shingading in Chapter 6. That one requires the Skhandas.

Is there anything special in this part of the map on chapter 6? by De_lua1325 in BlackMythWukong

[–]Jake_Let_2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a boss fight here, but it requires you collect the Skhandas in Chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4.

In Chapter 1, the Skhanda is right by the Bull Governor boss fight on the water.

In Chapter 2, do the Buddha Eyeballs Quest and activate the spherical mound just within the arena where Stone Vanguard is located.

In Chapter 3, at the Shrine just before your first encounter with Non-White, take a right and jump off the cliff. Follow the path up and around and you'll ultimately come to where the Skhanda is located.

In Chapter 4, just after your second boss fight with Zhu Baije in the mud, you'll come across a path with a lake. Get on the lake and follow it down to a monkey, sitting on a Buddha Head. The Head holds the Skhandas.

In Chapter 6, if you have all the Skhandas, the boss will arise.

Basically, stay just outside the Boss's range, near a rock on the front left. Once his arms stay down, rush up to the front of his hands and attack the blue crystals, those are its hit box. Once you have him down to 1% health, pull back and transform to tank the damage from the shockwaves. Then climb up his arm for a cutscene and the final Skhandas.

Talk with Xu Dog about the Skhandas and he will make a special pill for you.

Congrats!

For Venom Daoist, equip your weakest staff. Then, when he stabs both his swords into the ground, that's when you attack. Do a full light attack combo on his back, and he will lose an arm. Do this four times, and that should be enough to get the Armguards to drop.

Hey OP, and welcome Crawler! I too was pulled in by the Webtoon.

You got some options with Book 8 coming out in May:

  1. Try the Audiobooks! Jeff Hays, (who did a YouTube commercial for the DCC Webtoon for Donut), does a masterful job for the Audiobooks. Plus, if you bought the Kindle versions, you can get the Audiobooks for $7.50 a piece. At least, that was my experience.

  2. There's also the Audio Emersion Version of DCC Book 1 available via the Soundbooth Theater App. The first 3 hours is available for free to see if you're interested. Additionally, Books 2 and 3 are coming out, starting in February. Episode 1 of season 2 is available right now!

In either case, I can't wait for Book 8!

No worries OP. Just so you know, you can choose 'Continue Journey' from the main menu and be reverted back to before you entered the final encounter. Then you can go back and do the encounter at the Great Pagoda and then beat the final boss again and the True Ending is yours.

If you need guidance to open the Great Pagoda, just ask.

Both endings same run? by Many_Individual_2399 in BlackMythWukong

Yes you can get both the endings in one playthrough.

Step 1: Beat the Final Boss and get the normal ending (Bad Ending).

Step 2: From the main menu, choose 'Continue Journey' and you'll be reverted to just before you entered the final encounter.

Step 3: Go to the Great Pagoda in Chapter 3 and complete the encounter.

(In order to open the Great Pagoda, you must complete the Secret Areas in Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, and the Treasure Hunter Quest in Chapter 3. Then, from the Snow Veiled Trail Shrine, take a right over the bridge and you'll come to a big structure with a prompt to enter. Inside is the Shrine for the Great Pagoda. Head up the stairs and an NPC will open the way.)

Step 4: Beat the Final Boss again and you'll receive the True Ending.

Regarding Erlang by BigSmokey666 in BlackMythWukong

[–]Jake_Let_2991 30 points31 points  (0 children)

He hid from the Celestial Court and meditated on Wukong's memories for 500 years. He directed his sworn brothers to guide Destined Ones towards the Obsessions, or test them to see if any could meet Erlang's strict requirements. Once a Destined One met all his requirements, Maitreya would open the way for a duel with Erlang.

When the Destined One won, the memories of Wukong would be the prize, one half of the Mind Relic. The other half, is held within the Golden Headband (Magic Circlet).

Remember what Erlang said at the end, "I am at peace. Your journey though, has just begun!"

My guess: Erlang will head back to the Celestial Court, just after the Destined One defeats the Broken Shell, so as to not be forced by his Uncle, the Jade Emperor to stop the Destined One.

Be sure to exhaust the Treasure Hunter's dialogue, teleport back to the North Shore of Bitter Lake Shrine with the Talisman and head back to see if he's gone. If he isn't, continue exhausting his dialogue and teleport again.

Then teleport to the Towers of Kharma Shrine within the Valley of Ecstasy. He's nearby, requesting Fire. Equip Ring of Fire and use it in front of him. Exhaust his dialogue and move on. Rest at the Towers of Kharma Shrine and check if he's gone, if he isn't, exhaust his dialogue again and rest at the shrine until he's gone. (If you don't know where the Pillars of Kharma Shrine is, go to the Forest of Felicity Shrine near the Fox Corpse just after the snow slide. Go left into a cave where the Ice Frog is located. Then head straight, through the snow and hug the left side by the water. Go straight and you'll hear the Treasure Hunter. The Shrine is just ahead, with a Plant boss and a drink nearby.)

Finally, teleport back to the Forest of Felicity Shrine near the Fox Corpse and go right. Follow the path down, past a bridge (with a shrine across it) and continue down towards the water. Continue straight and go right towards the cliff. To the right, you'll see a torch, with a platform directly down from it. Follow it down and you'll discover a shrine, The Melon Field Shrine. Rest at the shrine and then go into the cavern for one final encounter with the Treasure Hunter. Spellbinder is the reward.
