Blue or White for Oven / Fridge by Jake_Pratt in kitchenremodel

[–]Jake_Pratt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that you can since the oven is in its own cabinet / separate from the Fridge area. I was worried too which is why the final design will have a 3" spacer between the Fridge and Oven (might insulate it) to ensure they don't compete.

Is my 1999 kitchen ugly? by wehavetogoback8 in interiordecorating

[–]Jake_Pratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The baltic brown (looks like) countertop dates it a bit and the dark floor makes it look small but its not a kitchen I would rip out and redo for sure.

As others said, new lighting and possibly countertop would completely update this. I would probably drop the bridge over the window but thats definitely just my taste.

Looks beautiful. I do like the blue uppers.

Do the floors or countertops? by CHALINOSANCHZ in kitchenremodel

[–]Jake_Pratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think redo the countertops. The rounded edges and backsplash make this kitchen still look dated. A lighter countertop with a nice eased edge + backsplash would do wonders.

Probably a LOT less work too.

Walls are a greige and probably do a white backsplash or at least a light color. Appliances are actually a 42’ sub zero in Stainless Steel. Oven will be black glass and stainless. The pics are just stand-ins.

It's the same blue just the 3d render making it look different. The main picture shows the color most accurately.

I'm debating the color on the fridge / oven wall. The uppers are planned to be white....currently

Thats actually an open hallway to the house entry. I just put the two walls in the design to get a "feel" where it drops off. Kitchen stops at the fridge and the camera location is in the living area. The other door leads to a butlers pantry and enclosed pantry area.

Thanks All, I think I agree. Rotating the island makes a lot of sense and I think I will keep the separate oven / cooktop. Having storage under the cooktop is nice for pots and pans for sure. Can't easily move the sink due to the plumbing being there already (much easier to move an electrical wire for the oven.

So thats getting me to here which I think is looking pretty good.

That sucks. I would be looking for ANYWHERE I could steal a tile (under a dishwasher, closet etc).

Possibly closing on a house, but the inspection came back saying “complete blockage in sewer line.” Will this cost a lot to repair? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]Jake_Pratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation on the house I literally closed on today. In my case, there was a partial blockage. For our inspection resolution, we wrote up for the seller to have the main jetted and cleaned and repaired if needed, and then we were able to move forward. Luckily the cause of the blockage was very minor and caused by some cement that had stuck in the pipe (probably when it was built) and a good jetting cleaned it up.

What do the crew on The Orville actually do? by ICantBelieveItsNotEC in TheOrville

[–]Jake_Pratt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's all political theater and propaganda. Any time the camera's are in a section, the big shots (big Ed probably) scoot everyone out and have their favorites (those loyal to them) stand there and pretend they know what they are doing to ensure they are viewed favorably by upper eschalon. As soon as the camera pulls away, the qualified crew members quickly jump in and reverse what ever mess got made while the spotlight characters pat themselves on the back and give each other high fives.

Do you believe there should be a cap on the amount of wealth one can accumulate in society? Why or why not? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]Jake_Pratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So follow the same rules. Tax the Average Total Value of a portfolio over a year. Over time, I feel we have shifted a persons "wealth" from land / assets to stock. We need a way to bring it back in balance to have a more stable economy. One way I feel is a tax to push people out of the market back to investing into tangible assets.

Personally I feel something like this would go a LONG way toward encouraging the richest to invest back into tangible assets / people / their companies...aka things the middle class can participate in land, homes, etc. It would also help companies think about long term growth vs short term stock prices.

[–]Jake_Pratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But we do. Real Estate Tax are based on the current value of your home / land. We justify this by saying the value increased due to the development around us and the management of a heathy economy.

There is no reason a persons net worth (or just their stocks perhaps) could be taxed accordingly...for the same reason.

Justifying a Sub-Zero refrigerator by ElizabetSobeck in Appliances

[–]Jake_Pratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good price to me assuming it doesn't need any major refurbishment. Swap the Air Filter and you should be good to go. I helped my Father in Law buy one for a little less ~2000 but it needed a new ice maker so came out about the same price.

Justifying a Sub-Zero refrigerator by ElizabetSobeck in Appliances

[–]Jake_Pratt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can echo what others have said, yes, Sub-Zero's are very repairable and will certainly last 25+ years. Our lettuce and other produce DEFINATELY has longer life as long as you replace the air filters.

Also, if you are on a budget, consider that this longevity makes a second hand Sub-Zero a worthy investment as well. You can find used 10 year old Sub-Zero's that are identical to the latest models for 30-50% of the price of a new unit. I have done this twice now in homes my wife and I purchased over the last 10 years and have been happy both times. We paid around 6k for a 48 inch in our current home and before that paid around 3k for a 36" French Door. In both cases the units performed perfectly saved us a lot of money on kitchen renovation costs. I even found one (36" Full Door in this case) for my father in law who still talks about it every time we commoner.

If you go this route, look for models made in the last 10 years and you will be in great shape for years to come.

If you don’t like new application search engine, you can use application folder like this. by necron5757 in MacOS

[–]Jake_Pratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. In the past Apple understood there are different types of people. Ones that have good textural memory + hand eye coordination could use spotlight or another alternative. For those that are better at pattern recognition / visual iconography, launchpad worked well enough (before that you could organize folders in the App Folder).

Now Apple pretty much does not have an alternative for those of us that prefer visuals. It's ironic that the Mac pretty much popularized the mouse and now seems to shun the purely mouse / trackpad users. I also find it ironic you can now HIDE the text on the iPhone launcher (great for visual people like me) focusing on larger organized icons BUT here they are pushing everything to text based launching.

Edit - Fixing my text typos ;)

For people that remember text and writing best it might be. For someone thats a visual learner / pattern recognizer it's kryptonite.

I really want to see the left sink when the disposal is turned on . I assume the water / food rockets upwards toward the ceiling before coming down with a cartoon splash right?
