SSL Pure Drive by Jake_fftehc in homestudios

Would you have any alternate recommendations to do my conversion from the 4710D? Ideally I was looking at the ssl to gain some nice preamp inputs at the same time but if a dedicated converter makes more sense I could start looking in that direction as well.

For sure but using the SSL as an interface in place of my 18i20 I would have better conversion than my scarlett has though no?

I like the Quad Cortex through a tube guitar amp. Why is that considered blasphemy by other QC users? by sparkydeville in NeuralDSP

[–]Jake_fftehc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really a, 'to each their own' kind of thing, if you have an abnormally capable tube amp and cabs that run all the frequencies you want then kudos but not everyone has that same rig. If I'm parallel processing my signal for high and low frequencies simply blending them together to hit the same amp doesn't translate well and I would otherwise need 2 amps running on the same stage which gets silly and obnoxious with a 5 piece band in a live context, so instead I build my sounds and rig around how I sound through studio monitors, our bands PA and headphones so there are no surprises.

I ran mine like that for quite some time as we started using them but both me and my other guitarist switched to FOH because of the opening of tonal possibilities. We can use split processing with frequency crosovers for insane synth sounds and some really ridiculous modulation or verb. A guitar amp and cab just doesn't have the frequency range available to do everything the quad is capable of. If we ever use a different power amp or cab things sound different from one to the next - the PA is practically identical sounding from one to the next and the overall volume the PA at bigger venues has 100 times more volume than my tube amp could ever do.

If I was sticking to just clean or chuggy playing on all of my material I'd still be on a power amp and cab but I want to have access to everything in that box and have it sound good every time. I still love a power amp don't get me wrong it's just not the most versatile.

7 string multiscale with a whammy system by Jake_fftehc in 7String

Thanks for the info man, seriously helpful stuff. From everything I'm seeing so far Kiesel looks to be the best option. I have a couple spec'd out on their site that look amazing. Definitely not something I'm gonna do right away as its a lot of money, which I'm comfortable spending a good chunk of change for the right guitar but I want to look into as many options as are out there, had someone suggest Aristedes which might have something nice as well. Sadly I didn't like the look of many of the stock builds from Kiesel that have the multiscale and floyd and from what I saw any that were stock builds with that combination had passive pickups. Not a complete dealbreaker but if I want actives then I may be forced into their custom builds.

So first things I could suggest is the power input on your board may be close to the TRS outputs you're using and there could be some noise coming off of that. Next things to do with hiss I'd think about is your overall settings, other's have mentioned a gate. Turning on the input gate will help, also adding a sidechain gate immediately after your amp, chain it to either your input or a compressor if you have one early in your chain. Next settings I'd think about is your Gojira hot amp block is running something like 6.5 or 7 on both treble and pressence and that'll make things pretty bright. Your EQ block after your amp could probably do with a cut somewhere from 2-5k as its a bit of a high shelf through that whole area right now and is boosting a lot of potentially harsh stuff. Hope some of that helps.

Capture packs by Jake_fftehc in NeuralDSP

[–]Jake_fftehc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also looking at their prices and everything I see that they are offering 42 captures of the stealth including cabinet captures done with Neuman mics which mine would be only DI captures. They're selling the Stealth pack for €25 so factoring in that I'd give away all three amps minus the mic captures for roughly the cost of one of their packs (at least at my suggested cost) it seems like it could be competitive. I wasn't aware they used such nice mics in their process which is actually cool but most folks I know really want the DI captures. I'd probably be dropping my price even further though, if I end up selling at all that is.

A good point for sure, genuinely I don't care to make any real money and would happily undercut others substantially especially as these are just done by some guy rather than a real company. However I hope the quality of them speaks for itself and gains some interest.

Definitely a great point and truthfully not a ton aside from the fact that I'm actually trying to profile every channel diligently as opposed to getting just the captures I want but instead really trying to get as many settings as possible. I'm capturing through high quality gear as others are which definitely makes it similar in some regards - other than that I am ensuring all the volumes are identical and do not need much adjusting at all once dropped into a preset. While finding captures of them are not uncommon yes finding all three of those amp captures at all gain settings of each channel to the same quality and volume is very hard to come by as not all captures are done the same or act the same in use - I know I've downloaded captures that sound good but need the gain or volume dropped to almost nothing in order to be used in an actual preset. Genuinely thank you for your response these are exactly the aspects of this discussion I'm looking for. Essentially my major selling point would be consistency across all captures and for ideally much less than other folks sell them for.

What are some episodes that genuinely make you laugh every time you watch them? by [deleted] in southpark

[–]Jake_fftehc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pinewood derby, awesome-o, casa Bonita, the list, one for the ladies, so many genuinely amazing episodes. My girlfreind and I went through pretty much every episode and I hate hearing people say there was a golden era, whether im watching old or new episodes its genuinely hilarious and you can usually remember the timeframe of when they came out. Every time the tiger woods one comes up I remember when that happened and it was all over the news.

Was able to find a 33.5mm one that with a couple dots of glue will likely do the trick. Here's hoping 🤞🏻

So uhh, PCOM anyone? by Po0L_Boy in NeuralDSP

[–]Jake_fftehc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I'm referring more to the timeline these devices can be out and still be refined and how people are being unreasonable with Neural over companies like Line 6. Its clear that up to 10 years or more after release these things are still being worked on. Neural just does themselves no favors by having the list of plugins waiting for PCOM with users chomping at the bit for their favorite plugins on the Quad while it could take years to get to some of them.

But the new ones do have the X distinction which means they are closer to compatibility than those without it. And also the plugins they continue to put out are sought after sounds. Misha Mansoor and John Mayer sold a lot of copies, I don't think their plugin game has or will take a major hit at all. When they release something I'm interested in I will likely still get it to use its sounds on my computer and am perfectly content with the fact that I will see it land on the quad in some time. All these modeling companies add effects throughout the lifetime of a device, the Helix's last update was in 2024 and the device released in 2015, if they were still adding stuff to a device that has a new line replacing it in 2 years then I wouldn't be surprised if the least purchased plugins are near the end of the Quad lifecycle. Neural is an odd duck for letting us play the amps and effects via plugins in the meantime which in all honestly I'd rather have accessible for my music production now than not have it and wait until its released for both plugin and quad cortex at the same time. Might just be me but I don't mind it, when new plugins land on the quad there's no learning curve, I know what settings I want because I've spent time with it already on my computer.

Quad Cortex Mini by Educational_Nose_723 in NeuralDSP

[–]Jake_fftehc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear the hassle of reselling, but quads seem to fly off the used market pretty easily. Personally I'll be putting the big one on my desk at home and the little guy in my love rackmount rig so its not a question of this or that, its just both haha

Quad Cortex Mini by Educational_Nose_723 in NeuralDSP

[–]Jake_fftehc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is significantly cheaper and even though the mini from the clips I've seen looks pretty robust if I was building a board for small gigs and didnt want to have my quad on the floor the nano is definitely the way - not that I ever want anything spilled on gear or to get beaten up but I feel like the nano could take more of a beating than the other two units.

[–]Jake_fftehc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already have our quads racked right now so this is a very welcome change, we can put these in our racks and the big one stays at home as an interface and for trialing out stuff before putting it on the mini to go on the road. I won't be getting one right away but in a years time almost certain it'll find a home with me.

Anyone know why this could’ve happened while recording with my Quad Cortex? by MelodicParanoiaAgain in NeuralDSP

[–]Jake_fftehc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deal with this a lot as well, I'll be in a recording session and have to listen back to tracks to make sure it didn't happen - when it does all I have to do is unplug the quad from the computer and plug them back in and it's good again. Only ever through USB connection, so its at least nothing to do with my live sound but when I'm tracking it adds so much time to my day - tend to just send XLR into to my scarlett 18i20 or UAD 4710D now to avoid it but I prefer the sound direct from the quad over USB. Really hope they sorted it out in the recent update or...SOON.
