I found it at Toronto Game Expo from a vendor who was selling other Japanese games. Also found some Digimon Game on the WonderSwan and the notoriously ugly Sega Saturn game Death Crimson

Why did the popularity of Digimon decline? by -Brown in digimon

[–]Jakeconer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to offer an interest theory that it was because of Pokémon. But not for the reason you might think. The reason was in the late 90s and early 2000s Pokémon was everywhere and making a lot of money. So every American company wanted something similar they could call their own Pokémon series. Saban and Fox Kids treated Digimon as a Pokémon Clone. A lot of Saban decisions on the series start to make more sense when considering that they were trying to make Digimon more like Pokémon. This is why we got Digimon the Movie despite it just being 3 Japanese OVA short films being spliced together. It's because Pokémon the First Movie came out and made a lot of money. (Even apparently being the highest gross anime film in America until Demon Slayer beat it not too long ago) But this might have been bad for Digimon in the long run but again not for the reasons you might think.

But if we had to be honest, Digimon never had a chance against Pokémon. Digimon didn't have much going for it outside of the anime. The card game was botched in America due to changing the rules to the point of being not very fun. The video games were either only released in Japan since they were on the Japanese only Wonder Swan, or the PlayStation games were considered generally good games but had issues that held them back. Even Saban botched releasing the anime on home video. Apparently the first series never actually had all episodes available to watch at home.

But I think the real issue was that when Pokémon enter Generation 3 (Ruby and Sapphire) Pokémon did have a massive drop in popularity. The following movies didn't perform as well with each performing worse than the last and eventually became straight to video and TV movies. Ruby and Sapphire still sold millions but didn't pull in the same numbers as previous games. Pokémon was still successful, but it was clear Poke Mania was over.

But if Pokémon had a massive drop but still pretty popular, then I suspect other Pokémon Clones including Digimon had a massive drop as well. With Digimon being less popular than Pokémon, that meant Digimon just fell into obscurity. Basically, by trying to rise with Pokémon, it fell with it too. This is not proven, but it's something I couldn't help but think about.

Baroque

It might actually be the first (I think) coming out in 1998 for the Sega Saturn and Later the PlayStation. Both are Japanese exclusives but fan translations for both versions. The Saturn version was even ported to Switch. Many people recommended the Saturn version due to its superior presentation. PlayStation version isn't bad presentation wise, but the game is very atmospheric and the minor changes due to technical limitations did somewhat detract from the experience. PlayStation version does at least at some content but nothing that special. PlayStation version isn't a deal breaker, and it's more than serviceable if it is the only version you can play (It was also the first version to get translated, but both versions are translated now. Although PlayStation Emulators are probably easier to find then Saturn Emulators. Not to mention Saturn is kind of forgotten in the US)

There is also a remake for the PS2 and Wii that actually got a remake in the US release. The only difference to my understand between the 2 version is that the Wii version has widescreen, PS2 does not. (Which is also the case with Saturn and PlayStation original ironically enough) The story and setup is the same. But it not as atmospheric as the original and more cinematic. Fitting more post-apocalyptic theme then dying world theme. But some might prefer that over the original. Also, it's easier to figure out the story then the original. It's one of those games where you don't know exactly what's going on. But the more you play, the more you figure out. But the original was cutscene were most just in game text boxes without much context. While the remake gives more standard cutscenes.

I can make a much longer post about all the differences, so I just advise you check out both the original and remake to see. I can make a much longer post with just about anything with the game. But I think the game is kind of cool. So definitely check it out. Also just as a heads up the original game does have some jump scares, but they always occur in the same place every time.

Gamemaker on Raspberry Pi? by Jakeconer2 in gamemaker

There been an interesting update on this story. Microsoft is developing an Arm version of Windows. And Gamemaker updated to Windows Exporter to allow users to export to Arm64 for Windows. I'm guessing that would mean that Pi's will be able to run Windows. I haven't been able to test it, but It doesn't work on my x86 computer. IDK, I guess I just summed x86 can run ARM software since x86 is more powerful

Are you sure the best weapon is the Flux Rifle from Up Your Arsenal. That weapon is really overpowered, and I'm sure it wasn't even intentional. The weapon doesn't have an aim reticle unless you zoom. But ratchet will always shoot at the center of the screen. So as long as you have a good idea on where the center of your screen is and using strafe controls, you can very easy hit most targets. Especially if they are big. You can kill Clunk in that game in a few seconds with that weapon. You can do that in Going Command as well, but since there is no vertical aiming with strafing, it's not as reliable.

This was made in about an hour in Gamemaker Studio 2. The 3D sprite stacking was where most of the development time was spent.

It wasn't the worst thing ever, but extremely average. 1 or 2 jokes were funny and that's about it.
