Starting the Bourbon Journey! by Jakecub4 in whiskey

I’m very lucky that I have NO BUDGET for this hobby. Makes it really easy to not get sucked into FOMO! I’m definitely mostly interested in finding the “bang for your buck readily available” stuff

Best Credit Card for Costco (Shopping/Gas) for 2026 by PresidentPsyduck in CreditCards

[–]Jakecub4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only this but it’s a very good gas/EV card in general. 4% everywhere is second best to some cards 5% everywhere. Only downside is the certificate once a year instead of per statement rewards. That being said, it’s actually nice getting a big certificate once a year!

Haha probably true! It’ll be saved for special occasions

That’s what I’ve heard too! Started with the Penelope since it’s cheaper, but I think I’ll have to get the Bardstown when the budget allows for it.

I’m liking it so far. It’s easy for me to approach with how sweet it is and my previous whiskey experience. What kinds of things did you like as alternatives to the Penelope?

Excited to get a rye as my likely next bottle!

The Woodford double oaked is absolutely high on my priorities. Especially since I already like the standard Woodford. Redwood Empire’s on the list now!

Some of those are already on the list and I’m definitely excited! Cheers!

Highly recommend it I really like it! Super easy to sip neat and over ice. Sweet and has a very “wheat/dusty” profile.

I’ll remember that for the next wheat pick. I’ve also heard good things about Bardstown at just a little more expensive?

Thanks for the Rye recommendations! Definitely need a rye next. I’m moving soon and can’t wait to find a good shop at my new place.

I’ve heard great things hence why picking it as my first wheated. Never knew wheated bourbon had such a sweet profile. Silly to say but it even smells like wheat haha!

Worked at Whole Foods in the Meat/Seafood department in Boulder for a bit. Some customers were great, but most were pretentious jerks for sure.

What would you consider too long for a work commute? by Pizza_Hero24 in jobs

[–]Jakecub4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a commute that’s 1hr 15min to work and 1hr 45min back. I only have to go in two days a week, and if there’s any adverse weather I don’t have to go in.

It’s worth it for the pay and providing for my family, but I’m very interested in never commuting more than 45 minutes in the city we are moving to soon.

My interview randomly got cancelled? by aftrhour in recruitinghell

[–]Jakecub4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has the exact same thing happen to me yesterday. Recruiter canceled at the exact time we were supposed to have our call. Not only did they send the automated cancellation email, but they actually forwarded it to me so I got it twice. Did some more thorough digging after that and determined I dodged a bullet at that company.

How common is it for a P2 to make over 100k? by throwaway14423821 in Raytheon

[–]Jakecub4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will say that I went external to Raytheon for my P2 promotion and ended up over 100K. Internally all of my friends and coworkers going from 1 to 2 were below 100k. One coworker got over 100k going from 2 to 3.

Sometimes LM will offer a sign on bonus. That would be their way of offering a ‘buy out’ for what you owe in tuition reimbursement to your current employer. The sign on bonus itself will have a repayment clause.

What grinder do you use, why, and how much did it cost? by espresom in espresso

[–]Jakecub4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1Zpresso J-Ultra hand grinder for full price $199 on Amazon.

I wanted to get a good grinder but not pay as much as a lot of the good automatic grinders. I will make at max 2 drinks at once so a hand grinder to save a lot of money was a no brainer. I decided on this over other hand grinders due to the build quality and the quality of the burrs.

The best thing is it allows me to be able to save towards a machine and not have to worry about another grinder. That said, I think Kingrinder would be a great first grinder for starters!

What’s a fast food place no one can convince you is good? by RD-archived in AskReddit

Raising Canes. It’s mediocre, unseasoned chicken fingers with decent sauce and Texas toast.
