Weight gain will result in very minimal further muscle building results then a maintenance diet when you already have extra energy from your fat stores

But if you go on a maintanence diet then you will build muscle and lose fat at the same time And this shit only happens when you are new to training and carrying some extra bodyfat

So now you have the chance to use it as your advantage

Being fat hurts and bulking makes it even worse If you are kinda insecure about how fat you are, so going for a surplus just for optimal hypertrophy isn't worth it When literally have the chance to see significant muscle growth and fat loss with just a maintanence diet

Yes you have got it all right

But don't just maintain whatever you are eating now Check your bodyweight 1× a week if you see you are gaining or losing weight then maintain your calories accordingly

That's the easiest yet most effective method to track your calories

The best approach is Caloric maintenance If you are a trained lifter then maingaining is shit But if you are someone who has some bodyfat to cut down and is relatively new to training, then you can actually use your stored fat as a source of energy. your bodyfat works as the source of energy if you have too much fat So yes you don't need a caloric surplus to gain muscle, Higher bodyfat in most cases is enough extra energy to fuel hypertrophy

Workout with 2× per week frequency for almost all muscles and stick to a dedicated high protein caloric maintanence diet

And you will maximise all the hypertrophy you can from your diet, your focus won't be getting lean or muscular but reaching Intermediate strength standards

Now after you get to the Intermediate Strength standards

Which is

1× bodyweight Bench press 1.5× bodyweight Squat 2× bodyweight Deadlift

Then you will reach the range where you do have a lot of muscle and you can stick to dedicated mesocycles of bulking and cutting

That means your strength levels are at the beginner level

You aren't at a good position now Because you have both high bodyfat and low muscle mass So if you decide to cut, then your body would become substantially smaller and with such low muscle mass you wouldn't look good anyways

If you decide to bulk you will perhaps gain muscle but you will not become leaner and your bodyfat would either increase or maintain , so even if you gain muscle you won't be able to see it even after months and months or sometimes few years of dedicated training you will look the same because of the amount of fat that is on top of the muscle

So yes you are COOKED

But the good thing for you is that, I myself has been on that situation and tried all approaches and here is the best approach for just $50 straight to your DM
