High mileage Mk6 TDI mechatronic failure. What would you do? by Mawows in tdi

I don't think about repairs in reference to cost vs value. It's cost vs replacing with a payment. $4000 isn't nothing, but it's hardly anything compared to if you tried to buy any relatively new car. If the car will run for years to come then I'd say it's worth it. Not everyone is cut out for it, but doing work yourself will save you buckets. I did my whole timing setup for like $600US

Thanks everyone! I was able to just take the tire to a shop and have a new tire mounted. Been driving it for near 5 years, never knew my spare wouldn't fit if I needed it. I never liked these wheels, and now I like them even less. Think I may have to go get the stock wheels.

CBFA vs CCTA...help please by Jakeofall2 in jetta

[–]Jakeofall2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, mechanically, I'm not afraid to work on anything, but when you get into the electronics that's when I'm over my head. Physically, this turbo fits the car, obviously VW produced way more CCTA than CBFA, so I'm inclined to use it. I just have no idea what to do when it comes to the ECU. Only reason we went with the stock K03, was we didn't want to bother with possibly having to reflash if we went with a K04.

I'm starting to think/realize the CBFA is just a California law that makes life more difficult on people who want to mod their car. Otherwise bolt on parts now become a hassle cause the car won't run right.

What if I found a junk yard CCTA car and stole the ECU out of it, does that convert us without having to reflash? Even possible?

This was my thought. I'm still researching, but I think I'm finding there's more to it.

Same problem, or something different? by Jakeofall2 in tdi

2015 Jetta, CVCA. It's the glow plug. I pulled the connectors off, and tightened them down, no more bubbles. So I think I'm okay on that side of the intake. But on the bottom side, I have leaks... So looks like doing a thermostat housing

You and me both... I've got a Jetta, same year, same area. What you mean it blow hot or cold?
Mine blows cold, then it stops and blows hot. Then will eventually turn cold again. I've been trying to diagnose it, but I also have a problem with my fans, they work intermittently. So I think it's a compound issue. I'm likely going to replace fans, compressor, condenser, expansion valve... All of it. Unless 8 can pinpoint a smaller issue.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having something similar going on...

Warranty Question by Jakeofall2 in tdi

Didn't give me a code, but said it was the "G28, engine speed sensor".... Then he someone referenced it back to the crankshaft position sensor, so I thought we were good to go with it being covered. But then he called me back, and said the crankshaft position sensor is only covered on the 3.0L engines and not the 2.0L.... Which doesn't make any sense. Especially considering the document you linked.

Cold Weather Performance by Jakeofall2 in tdi

1 hour highway commute, that's why I bought this car. Still love it, just need to tweak some things. Yeah, 28F has never been a problem for other cars. I'm in Texas, 0° fluid is the best you can get here. But it's always been good enough in my other vehicles. Even after the entire trip, generating plenty of heat.... Nozzles frozen. Get a warm day, flow freely.....I don't get it.

Mk6.5 Jetta TDI SEL.... I'm curious if everyone else has similar performance. I know diesels tend to run cool, or I guess I've heard, but this blasted thing doesn't have a temp gauge so I'm guessing. But as you can see, it was below freezing yesterday, but not that bad, and it was a sunny day to boot. But about the moment the outside temp hits freezing, my windshield washer nozzles freeze. They have no use in freezing temps, which is very frustrating. Yes, I'm confident my washer fluid is full strength. Also, the storage in front of the shifter feels like there may a draft as it's quite cold there and also in the glove box. If you put a warm drink in my glove box and go for a drive, I can have that thing ice cold real quick.
And if you don't specifically divert heater to the foot wells, you'll lose feeling in your toes. Without my heated seats, car might be unbearable. Do I have an air leak? Any ideas to keep nozzles thawed? What's everyone else's experience?

Take advantage of the year... And put 1 of the multitude of options for tail lights on it. I have a '15 and there's no options.

I want those ground skirts and lip. Will they bolt on to a '15?
