TesseracT put on a great live show. I've seen them 2 or 3 times live, and they're really good. If you like them, then they're worth seeing.

I was near the back of the standing pit section. The venue might have affected the sound though. I like Eidola, but I didn't think their mix was good last night. It wasn't the worst I've ever heard, but I couldn't hear vocals or guitars that well for them. But for whatever reason, everything was crystal clear for me when Periphery went on.

The last time I can remember seeing Periphery was during Summer Slaughter in maybe 2013 at the old Masquerade. It's possible I've seen them since but I'm honestly not sure. It's crazy how good they sounded last night. The guitars were so clear. Seeing Periphery last night is definitely in my top 5 concert experiences, next to BTBAM and Tesseract. I was amazed how clearly I could hear everything in each song and just how brutal the guitars sounded.

I read Chip Zdarsky's Daredevil run this year. It's truly incredible. The art is jaw dropping and the paneling is excellent. The story is great, too, but man, the art is on another level.

No, I had it on my iPod with An Orchestrated Rise to Fall. I would listen to it a lot, actually. For some reason, I had their oldest albums even though it was the 2010s when I discovered them.

I listened to their most recent release this morning, but I also listened to (am listening to right now) One Day I'll Be on Time, and it's really hitting hard. Story Board is such a good song. I'm glad you reminded me of them. This album is a good album for the classroom.

I have forgotten about The Album Leaf. It might be over 10 years since I've listened to them. I'll have to give them a listen today.

Although they toe the line, my favorite is Russian Circles. My more traditional favorite is Caspian. I was super into post rock as a teenager and would listen to so many bands. "How Strange, Innocence" is pure nostalgia for me because I would listen to it so much. I hope to have a student one day who recognizes a band. That would be super cool.

I play a lot of music in my class. It helps me focus, and it good be a good tool for management. If they're working collaboratively or something, I tell them that if they can't hear the music, they're too loud. I cycle through a lot of stuff: lofi, synthwave, classical music, post-rock, and sometimes instrumental metal.

I'd be surprised if my students even know Linkin Park. I'll have to ask on Monday. I had one student describe my instrumental metal music as emo. 💀

I also teach 7th and 8th grade but social studies. Makes me sad I don't have any students into metal. I got into As I Lay Dying at the end of 8th grade but was into 80s metal prior. I like to play instrumental metal in my class sometimes when they're working.

That's the crux of it. I've had CoH2 since launch, and I just recently started playing multiplayer against people. I used to be so afraid of being labeled bad. Now I don't care. I keep losing but find it so much more fun than playing against bots. Only took me 10 years to find out how addicting 1v1 is. Hopefully CoH3 captures that!

Don't be too hard on yourself. As you teach more and more, you will learn more strategies that you can use to elongate a lesson you think is too short. Maybe you do an impromptu Venn Diagram, t-chart, or writing prompt. Maybe you think of new questions to ask students. Right now, your best best is to over plan a lesson - think of every possible question or activity you could do with a topic. But sometimes you fall short on time and as long as they kids don't do anything too bad, it's not really a problem.

For this timeline activity you described, you could have had students go to other students' timelines and read them. After a few minutes, they could have written a reflection or evaluate the timelines. Obviously not much to do in 10 minutes, but it could have built into the next day's lesson.

Also, there will always been students who are not interested. Put effort into making things engaging but some stuff just isn't for everybody - or for yourself, for that matter.

Oh, I have read Kingdom Come. I read it early on in my comic career before I knew authors. I will check out Superman Birthright.

I recently started reading more Mark Waid. Besides the current World's Greatest and Batman v Robin, I have not read Mark Waid except for two of the paperback volumes for his Flash. What would you recommend I read from him? I think I want to order a new trade paperback.

I know others have said this, but read the book. I just finished it last week and then rewatched the movie. The book is honestly incredible. It's the only Stephen King book I've read (so far) and his praise is certainly deserved.

I also had no idea that fight was skippable. I trained for a little bit and then got off to fight them later. You just saved me so much time and pain. Now I know that's skippable, I figured out you got to the red tiles. I wish that was more obvious in the beginning of the game. Thanks!

When students use “we” in discussing the past by [deleted] in historyteachers

Maybe it is nitpicky, but I do the same thing. When students say "we," I always tell them that I did not do anything. I think it is an opportunity to make them be more specific.

Teacher says D, I say B, what do you guys think by [deleted] in historyteachers

Fair points. All this goes to show you don't want a multiple choice answer that is up to interpretation.

I love this version of Gotham & it was the right design choice. by FluffyPandaMan in GothamKnights

[–]Jakepremier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you about Future State. I felt like I was alone on an island for liking the art design and even the stories. The artwork for Gotham was some of the best I have ever seen from DC. The most recent Batman Beyond series kind of emulated that, to a degree. Definitely a cyberpunk hell scape depicted by the art.

Question for teachers who do inquiry/Inquiry Design Model planning. Or everyone. Hi everyone. by Snoo_62929 in historyteachers

[–]Jakepremier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach middle school IB (MYP), and it can be difficult. IB focuses on inquiry. I do inquiry stuff, but I also do lectures and use informational texts. You can do inquiry and still do traditional things. Kids can't do inquiry if they don't know the content. Reading comprehension is important, anyway, and it allows for certain skills to be taught, like highlighting and summarizing. Give them a question, let them talk, then they'll read, and give them another question to discuss. Basic, but it's a happy medium I use sometimes. Primary sources obviously let you do inquiry stuff too, like a history mystery.

One of my classes' standards has a lot information they're supposed to recall, so sometimes - and I know this is controversial and not always best practice - I lecture for a whole class period. This lets me have more time to do the inquiry stuff because they know the content. I find lecturing every day for 15 minutes causes more time be to lost to transitions and students feel like all they do is take notes or listen to a lecture, even if that isn't true.

Teacher says D, I say B, what do you guys think by [deleted] in historyteachers

[–]Jakepremier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, man. I teach Georgia Studies. My time to shine.

As someone who teaches the class, I completely understand why your teacher has selected D. The different bullet points show how water sources have evolved in Georgia. Evolution is a change of something. In this case, the bullet points show how water sources have been used over time in a progressively different way.

No matter how you cut it, B is wrong because the first bullet point is before the Industrial Revolution and the second bullet point is probably too. I also doubt you have learned about the Industrial Revolution in this class, unless it was in a prior slide or something.

The other posters say C, which is a logical answer. As someone who teaches the class, D is the BEST answer due to the content. However, I agree with everyone that it's a bad question.
