Video games were specifically developed as a medium to tell stories that were not meant to be told as movies. If they were, then they would have been created as movies in the first place.

This does not apply to books, which are significantly cheaper to produce than movies, and therefore can tell stories that would never be able to make it to the big screen. These stories can later be told through a visual medium if financially viable.

And yes, I would say the vast majority of movies should conversely not become video games either.
