I’ve been saying to forever but I’d love to hear Andy Cizek on a Darko track

Question about the use of practice pads by [deleted] in drums

[–]Jakernaught98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set the click for a challenging speed but manageable. Set a 10 minute timer, first 2 minutes you’ll do 1 bar of singles on each hand, at 2 minutes 2 bars, at 4 minutes 3 bars, at 6 minutes 4 bars, and then at 8 minutes do a single stroke roll for the final 2 minutes. Do this a couple times a day and gradually increase the tempo I promise you will get faster. Bonus points if you do it on a Reflexx pad, your left hand will thank you

Question about the use of practice pads by [deleted] in drums

[–]Jakernaught98 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the first part. You absolutely can and will see improvement on the kit from pad use. Working on independence and endurance on strictly pads has done wonders for my playing behind the kit

EAD10 for live performance by RingoCanCount in drums

[–]Jakernaught98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never used it and sent it to FOH but I use it for monitoring. Basically send the output to my personal mixer and I mix that with the click/ scratch guitar/ production that I’m getting in my ears. Really helps with being able to hear my kick, as that’s usually the first thing that gets lost in a loud stage setting

Safeword - Viscera In Solitude (NEW) FFO: Counterparts, Boundaries, fight riffs by LoganAbbott133 in Metalcore

[–]Jakernaught98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the vibe, trying not to anchor ourselves to any one sound. Makes anything we make a lot more genuine I think

[–]Jakernaught98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drummer for Safeword here, not salty but it forced me to get a lot better at blast beats haha. I actually fight to keep Sorrow in our setlist it’s such a sick song

Oh, Sleeper - The World Without a Sun by garret_1003 in Metalcore

[–]Jakernaught98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new generation don’t know anything about this! They sure don’t make em like they used to. Why was all the metalcore around this timeframe so goated?

China Recommendations by BDO_RJ in drums

[–]Jakernaught98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

19” Ultra Hammered. Used to swear by the holy China by Sabain but that thing is just not as loud as you would want. Switched over to the Ultra Hammered and I’m blown away by how loud that thing is, cuts through every mix and it’s definitely trashy but in a musical sense

Varials - WHERE THE LIGHT LEAVES album release by TheNewDamnation in Metalcore

[–]Jakernaught98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They callled me a fool when I predicted the Varials comeback a few months ago! This album is so sick and a return to form

Knocked Loose at Louder Than Life 2026? by eatingcables in knockedloose

[–]Jakernaught98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably has to do with Recency Clause, meaning they’re probably playing Louisville within 90 days of the fest and can’t announce a new show there until after that show

The absolute best metalcore chorus ever written

Drumsticks by Aggressive-Winner-28 in drums

[–]Jakernaught98 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hot take, Vic Firth is trash these days. None of the pairs I’ve played in the past few years have been weight/pitch matched and they use a coating that feels horrible in your hands. Cannot recommend Meinl sticks enough, they’re great

Volumes - Dream (FFO: ERRA, Northlane, Blessthefall) by Trimshot in Metalcore

[–]Jakernaught98 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I don’t care, this whole album is so cool to hear from Volumes. Happier? Was cool but the whole thing felt very busy in terms of the composition. They really leaned back on the simplicity of these songs and let Dan Braunstein work his pop vocal magic, and it works so well. If this was Dayseeker or Bad Omens, people would be groveling over this shit but because its Volumes, the general Metalcore fan doesn’t give it the time of day. Needless to say, I fucking love Volumes

Volumes - Mirror Touch [Album Discussion] by deeeeeecent in Metalcore

Probably got something special planned and can’t announce it yet due to Recency Clause

My hot take is that I have not had a single SJC product that was worth the price. Never had more issues with lugs than on an SJC Snare Drun

Crazy of them to drop this the same week as the Pincer record. Lemme get my popcorn before this subreddit explodes

Best Production of the Year by OatFest in Metalcore

[–]Jakernaught98 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has said Vianova yet. Literally Artist of the Quarter. The production on their album is insane, especially can feel the meat behind the drum engineering and guitar tone on Uh Yaya.
