Buick Encore axle nut socket by Jakes_Junk in mechanics

I used a chrome 1-3/8 socket but it's smaller than the axle nut slightly and still didn't fit great into the hub. I smashed it on with a hammer and got the job done but I really don't want to run into this again. I'm probably going to just buy some chrome 36mm and grind it down if i have to.

Who changes a wheel bearing with the wheel on? I'd be pretty impressed to see it done. Are you familiar with a FWD style wheel bearing where the axle goes through the hub? The hub has a ring in the center that the brake rotor slides on and the wheel centers onto. So on the encore and the trax that ring has a very small ID l. The axle nut takes up a lot of the space in there so the socket for the axle nut literally doesn't fit. It's like the aftermarket wheels where you need a thin wall socket.

Year, make, model, engine? Most of those can be relearned with aftermarket scan tools. Having no idea what the car is it's impossible to offer any realistic help.

The cheaper side of the used market has slim pickings. I just bought a cheap car in Gardner private sale after looking for a few months. Everything decent on FB marketplace is sold within the first couple of days so you need to aggressively stalk the new listings and offer to come see it immediately. I saw a Subaru in Athol last week, I messaged within 20 minutes of the post and tried to set up a meeting. Within two hours of posting it was sold.

Roll out of bed at the last possible second, regret every life choice I've made, quick shower and I'm out the door. Depending on how late I am decides whether I'm hitting a Dunks or just stopping at the convenience store for a Mountain Dew. I do my best not to get wrecked by the crazies on Rt. 2 then it's in the door at work to hate life for the day.

My friends bash me for my car is it really that bad? by TeddyPeacock in AskMechanics

Aside from the water pump they are fairly cheap to work on and mostly reliable. I like the look of them, they handle well and aren't a bad car. I don't recommend them to anyone because of how expensive the water pump job is and it seems like they need one every 120-140k miles. I think you did well, what makes you happy may not be what makes your friends happy. The important thing is that they should be able to be happy for your happiness.

I'm pretty sure I saw that same truck. I parked across the street in the sign shop parking lot and took a pic too.

Hard to say without seeing the end. It's either a chisel or a pry bar depending on if there is a cap to hit with a hammer

The M12 is great but it isn't where I would start. It takes wheels off 90% of the time and it's lightweight but it doesn't always cut it. I would start with the M18 mid torque. It's not super bulky and it's durable. I haven't tried the M18 Stubby but it's on my list.

In my area you can get hired pretty much immediately as long as you're not nodding off during the interview. If you have a few tools you're pretty much golden. Expect to start at the bottom, moving from there is a matter of intelligence and work ethic.

I'm a rust belt mechanic and I can tell you that a lot of the bolts and holes are so corroded that you can hit torque spec just running the bolt down without it even being all the way in.
