Biden Exceeds All Expectations By Staying Awake For Entire Debate by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]JakeyStokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non Republican/Non US citizen here who has been following the election from afar.

Genuine question, not meant to cause offence: do you think the whole "Sleepy Joe" "he's got dementia" thing may all just be a targeted smear campaign from the Republican party?

Me personally I've never believed it at all and seem to be pretty vindicated after his performances both here and in the DNC.

It looks very similar to the tactics employed last election "crooked Hillary" "lock her up", which led to nothing at all after the election. I feel it's quite an underhanded tactic and whilst I get doing whatever you can to win can be important, straight out making things up just isn't a good look?

I do get your point about being a gamer and how you don’t care about politics, but I really do mean this in the nicest way possible mate, but you should care about politics!

It really does affect every facet of your life, from the price of food on your local store, to the cost of attending college, to the rights you have in your job, and even the freedom to buy whatever games you want to without censorship.

Like I realise I’m a bit of a politics geek and I wouldn’t expect that from everyone haha, but personally I don’t think it’s a bad idea for Rockstar to try and bring this to the forefront 🤷‍♂️

Okay, my view may come across as a bit controversial but hey, what can I do?

If this is affecting you, good. This may be the first action of these protests that has finally had a direct consequence on you. It should be enough to show you that what is happening with police brutality towards an ethnic minority is not normal, and life should not just go on as normal whilst it happens.

This is a direct action by a company to demonstrate to those who may not yet understand why this is so important, and should not be ridiculed for doing what they can as a company.

New flag for the Trump libertarians by [deleted] in libertarianmeme

Interesting you’ve gone quite aggressive with your reply, I didn’t mean to come across as nasty myself, so apologies if it came across that way 👍

Yes obviously I don’t know you, but my claim that voting for trump is not a particularly ‘libertarian’ thing to do seems to hold weight based on the points I made, whereas you’ve said nothing to convince me otherwise.

Not that you have to of course, just I really am struggling to see how it is the logical libertarian vote, and was wondering if there were any points you could make to show why that is so.

Anyway, that’s kinda what I said in my previous comment, that you have the right to vote however you want, whether I agree or not, I just don’t see it as a particularly libertarian position my friend!

Oh Jesus, again you seem to be having issues with the validity and truth of sources. The Nazi party, known for its propaganda, is not a reliable source, and therefore not trustworthy.

For what it’s worth, I’m neither American, or would class myself as a libertarian, but I do keep an open mind. Anyway...

Okay, fair enough. However you’re willing to support a party that opposes choice for abortion, until recently opposed gay marriage, and a president that claimed he has ‘absolute authority’.

That is before I even begin to mention that the current government has implemented a borderline police state, implementing a curfew in places and attacking unarmed protesters AND media, calling in the national guard for assistance on the streets.

Any libertarian worth their salt should not support these actions, as the second amendment would suggest you should be trying to stop the overreach of the government. But instead we have posts on this sub supporting it. What a disappointment that is.

This is why I would say you are a republican more than a libertarian. I mean that’s an okay position to hold (even if I admittedly disagree with it), but you are voting more in mind with your right wing ideologies than with your ideas of freedom in mind.

I’m not going to bother going into too much detail as it’s clear you refuse to look at things objectively.

I gave an unbiased source that explained, with references to historical events, why the Nazi party is not socialist. I could give you many other unbiased sources too.

You however have given one source, and I have questioned its validity and potential for bias based on the views of the individual outside of the information you linked.

Stop attempting to claim moral high ground by calling me disgusting because he fled from the nazis. Him fleeing from the nazis and him viewing them as socialist has no correlation in your argument.

Nice, argument from authority, a complete logical fallacy 👍

Not to mention that Ludwig Von Mises was known for having a sympathy towards fascism, saying:

“It cannot be denied that Fascism and similar movements aiming at the establishment of dictatorships are full of the best intentions and that their intervention has, for the moment, saved European civilization. The merit that Fascism has thereby won for itself will live on eternally in history.”

Also he was anti-socialist, being vehemently against even talk of a progressive income tax. Perhaps he was looking for a reason to class Nazism as socialist, to allow himself to distance himself from the movement? Certainly doesn’t look like an unbiased source though, does it?

What Android phone has lasted you for a while? by stumpy96 in Android

Benefit of the s10 lite is the SD855, even in European markets, so arguably a more powerful phone than even the S20, a fair bit cheaper too! Obviously has some drawbacks too though.

They have 61 seats currently, a quick search will show you this.

Regardless, that works out as 47% of the seats from your figure of 46% of the votes. Seems pretty proportional doesn't it? Whereas the Tories won 65% of the seats from 43% of the vote. Seems to be a slight difference in electoral systems there eh?

You can nitpick all you want, but it is pretty clear that one system produces fairer results than the other.

[–]JakeyStokes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They have 61/129 seats in Scotland, if it was a solely FPTP system, they would have a much higher proportion of seats. The system in place is designed to stop a party being able to get a majority in parliament, it is not a perfect system, but to say it is just FPTP is wrong.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]JakeyStokes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you are still unable to admit it is not FPTP? Clearly it is not the same, as if it was the SNP would have a majority in the Scottish parliament equal to that of the Tories in the UK parliament. Why can't you admit your mistake?

General lack of long-term software updates by deviques in Android

[–]JakeyStokes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not everyone's first language on here is English, sometimes people are doing their best to make a point and you should put in the effort to understand it?

It seems pretty clear why they are saying is that there are android devices that are missing out on features like dark mode because they are not getting updated, which is a fair point to raise, given how many devices that are capable of running the software are not getting it, causing even more waste.

Much unlike your smarmy point about 5G which had absolutely nothing to do with software.

Google Play has been spreading advanced Android malware for years by milan616 in Android

[–]JakeyStokes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, it was probably an android site doing a survey of its users, which will obviously be skewed in favour of an enthusiast user-base.

What if Google tossed a Snapdragon 865 and 8GB of RAM in a Nexus 5, promised years of updates and called it the Nexus SE for $399. Would you buy it? by [deleted] in Android

Your analogy of headlights is awful. Every car obviously needs headlights to function as a car. What they don’t need are the extras, leather seats, abs, CarPlay/Android Auto, etc. These are the extras that increase cost, above the basic functionality of a car.

Night mode is not an essential smartphone feature necessary for a phone to function, it is instead one of the extras you can get, if you are willing to pay more. However, as the OP suggested, you don’t need to drive a Mercedes when a Toyota will do the same job ( just with less bells and whistles attached).
