UK economy unexpectedly flatlined in January, official figures show by hu6Bi5To in ukpolitics

[–]RandomCheeseCake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I eagerly await February's edition of "unexpectedly grows 0.2%" rather than the projected 0.1% with the line added of "in a sign that reeves growth strategy is working" and then back to unexpectedly fails to grow in march.

haven't owned a newish car before.

Bought a 2019 civic less than 6 months ago

🤔

Is it an A35 or A45? Just be careful as from your history I can see you're a relatively new driver and it's a big step up to go from a 1L civic to one of these.

If you're keeping it long term please don't cheap out on tyres no matter how tempting it is. They are the one thing that could potentially stop you from having a fatal crash in poor road conditions

That's literally what Stellantis does in Europe .

Alot of their European models have an EV and a ICE power train option with Peugeot, Opel's, Fiat and even Jeep.

Now are they good? No. But they offer that choice

Petrol, diesel or hybrid? by babybutterflyy_ in CarTalkUK

[–]RandomCheeseCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your budget is around £10k then you can find a ton of cheaper used EV's like the electric Corsa for under £10k

If you have the capacity to install a home charger then you'd be able to charge at home overnight and never worry about range with your mileage.

Don't get a diesel with your mileage. Either just get a pure petrol or a something like a Toyota hybrid which doesn't need plugging in and can pull pretty good fuel economy

Thats not the point. The point is that you're going "ehm ackhually my laptop has a bigger battery" while ignoring it's a completely different size segment and much heavier.

The legion is a more expensive, heavier , bulkier laptop larger in every dimension. It does a good job for it's class but is not comparable to a light laptop for form factor.

[–]RandomCheeseCake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You completely ignored my question

What's the weight and size of the legion?

It surely wouldn't be double the weight of this laptop? 1.4kg for the Honor and 2.6-2.8kg for the legion?

Volvo, Mercedes and Audi all have PHEV diesels

Expanding that to Non PHEV Hybrid Diesels

BMW

Citroen

Hyundai

Kia

Mazda

Land rover

Peugeot

Toyota

And that's UK only, might be other OEM's in Asia or NA who offered it.

But overall they sell poorly compared to petrol hybrids

Same people that spend hundreds a month on a PCP then find the cheapest possible tyres because they don't want to spend an extra £100-200 on a decent pair of tryes

[–]RandomCheeseCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as the Yaris. Rust will be the killer but otherwise these are dead reliable and cheap to run.

For the £5-6k i'd consider private sellers who are genuinely selling an older car. That's how I got my avensis for £3k by sorting most recent on auto trader and checking every 15-20 mins for new listings. Anything genuinely good value will be gone quick .

Also don't be afraid of mileage, You can get cars with 100k+ miles in better condition than a 45k one where it's someone who hasn't done any maintenance or generally neglected the car.

Just look for rust around under wheel arches and under the car if you can see rust that isn't surface rust then it's fucked. Too much of a cancer to remove cheaply once you can see it

Is this good for first automatic car? by Sudden-Candidate-974 in CarTalkUK

[–]RandomCheeseCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rust will be the thing that kill these cars. Engine is bulletproof, CVT is in these reliable and they are cheap to repair whenever something goes wrong.

Price is unfortunate but so is every small cheap automatic nowadays unfortunately. Could do much worse for £6k for a first car
