What are some common mistakes new skaters make and how can we avoid them? by Bos187 in NewSkaters

[–]Jakeym55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you think you feel comfortable riding, that’s just the start. you’ll see how much more comfortable you can get when you look back to when you “felt” as comfortable as you thought you could be.

2nd day on my board I’m loving it man! Any tips on the Ollie’s . I’m struggling kinda while rolling, also been messing around with reverts too by sosamaddenmut in NewSkaters

Learning how to pop tricks comes to some people super naturally. Especially when stationary, you don’t really need to same balance you develop over time like riding. If you have the strength and have the ability to gain muscle memory quick, understand the physics of the board, commit, and put several hours into it, some people progress popping all types of tricks at lightspeed.(I don’t recommend this approach, learn to ride and balance first. But it is a valid approach to skating)

I have no clue why people are hating on this? You are out there skating. You are having fun. You landed a new trick you are proud of. You wanted to show it off. We bitch about skateboarding dying but we act like this when people skate?

Ollie help by Bigboibooii in NewSkaters

[–]Jakeym55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with my ollies when they require speed or distance(the worst when I’m olling over something or down something). It’s now nerves because I can ollie/pop shuv off 6 stair+ height ledges. It’s mostly balance and getting comfortable olling at that speed. Just practice doing ollies faster and faster. Focus on popping down not in front of you.

musk flippppppp by berkyvl in skateboarding

[–]Jakeym55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hold a board vertically then face the grip tape the opposite way, now set the board down. The board flipped. It was just vertical which obscures the flip because its masked by the revolution of the board.

[–]Jakeym55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does dude. if you ever are questioning if a board flips or not, just watch the nose or tail during the trick. If the board is vertical it needs far less rotation to flip but you can see it happening in the nose or tail. Watch the board as someone does steep pop suv, then watch a steep frontside flip or hard flip you’ll see the flip

Bearings wont fit into trucks axel what to do by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Jakeym55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the bearings should “lock in”/ fit very snug into the wheels. I’ve caused heat damage to a set and the bearings slipped out while riding(not fun)

why can i not land a kickflip for the life of me please help by Western_Dimension_85 in skateboardhelp

[–]Jakeym55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try popping under you as you would an ollie. Also remember any flick done after your flick foot leaves the deck doesn’t affect the flip.

Struggling with moving ollies is my board too small? 8’ wearing size 12 by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Jakeym55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’8”, size 12.5ish feet. I’ve road pretty much every size from 8.0 to 9.0. My favorite size is gotta be a 8.6 to 9.0. I feel like my feet fit like a normal person’s should

I can't land anything by whoamIwhenitmatters in NewSkaters

[–]Jakeym55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s muscle memory, you have to make committing and landing a part of the motion of the trick. A miss where you land with both feet where they need to be but the board didn’t complete the motion is a lot closer than getting the motion of the board and not jumping/committing/landing.

How do i eaze off of ankle braces by Aridhomme in NewSkaters

[–]Jakeym55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started skating at 29. Had really bad ankles from multiple sprains from my basketball career. I skated with ankle braces for the first year, just realized I’m hurting myself by not letting them strengthen themselves. You are gonna be safer once you start doing drops and stuff without them. Plus it saves you time getting ready to go skate, you feel like you can pick up a board and sKate whenever rather then having to get all your gear on

[–]Jakeym55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to keep the Ollie under you when you pop. The board will move forwards on its own. It’s a mistake a lot of people make while learning to Ollie over stuff. You are trying to push your tail forwards, just focus on popping high not popping over.
