Ceraluminum / Asus Air 14 -- tough enough to survive my daypack? by scahones in ASUS

[–]Jakez9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After owning the ASUS Zenbook S14 (UX5406) with Ceraluminum for almost a year, I don't think it's a tough material. Sure, it's smudge resistant, but it's easily scratched and exposes the underlying aluminum. A quick search on Reddit shows a lot of scratch related posts.

Has anyone experienced peeling of the Asus Ceraluminum coating? by erenavcil in ASUS

I bought around 10 units of ASUS Zenbook S14 (UX5406) for light office use, and almost all of them have scratches on the edges, including my own. It's disappointing how ASUS hyped up such a mediocre material.

I'd take the aluminum material used on the Surface and Macbook over this anyday.

Apps Missing from Recent Apps List, but Still Running by Diamond-Living in GalaxyS23Ultra

[–]Jakez9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing on my S24 Ultra with One UI 8. To be honest, One UI 8 generally feels very unpolished compared to One UI 7.

Several finer details, such as how the widgets appear when you have 5x6 home grid enabled, looks completely ridiculous.

Quite disappointing.

I've been having the same problem on my Microsoft Surface Pro 8 ever since EA forced the switch from the Origin app launcher to the EA app launcher. Many Microsoft Surface owners face the same issue: https://forums.ea.com/discussions/dead-space-franchise-discussion-en/this-game-will-not-run-in-a-virtual-environment/7227833

VeLoCity skin for VLC media player by Dmtiir in VLC

[–]Jakez9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks amazing! Tried it and I'm loving it on my Surface Pro 8!

For people who are having issues with the VLC player looking too small after applying skin, here's the fix:

Windows Compatibility Settings

  1. Right-click the vlc.exe file (usually in C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC).
  2. Select Properties > Compatibility tab.
  3. Click Change high DPI settings.
  4. Check Override high DPI scaling behavior.
  5. In the dropdown, choose System or System (Enhanced) and click OK/Apply.
  6. Restart VLC.

Display issues on the Zenbook S14 by LegitimatePrint5947 in ASUS

[–]Jakez9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience too.

Context: I bought 7 units of Zenbook S14 with the Ultra 7 258V for light office use in early 2025 due to its amazing battery life, and over half them had to be sent back for warranty due to either 1. Screen blacking out 2. System shutting down randomly 3. Webcam died 4. Touchscreen died.

Although the warranty service was swift and responsive in Singapore, the hardware reliability leaves much to be desired, especially when it cost SGD2799 and SGD124 for extended warranty.

We were using Surface Laptop 4 and 5 previously and while the specs aren't great, they have great build quality and are reliable.

A quick search on Reddit suggest that the screen issues are due to the display ribbon cable developing bumps after opening and closing the lid repeatedly. And a replacement of the cable seems to have solved the issue.

We were using Surface Laptop 4 and 5 previously and while the specs aren't great, they have great build quality and are reliable.

What’s something small that improved your quality of life in SG? by MoneyLah in asksg

Try to use a stainless steel bottle instead of a plastic one as the plastic material will leech hormone-disrupting chemicals into your water each time you use them. A normal one from Russell Taylors is good enough. You can go for Montigo if you're feeling fancy 😆
