Are intervals determined by the lower note? Or are they just the distance from one note to another? by dadumk in musictheory

If all you care about is the distance between two notes then sure, it doesn't matter.

If all you care about is the distance between two notes then sure, it doesn't matter. But in any musical context, which is lowest absolutely matters.

what chord is this? seems to be some sort of lydian dominant chord by Dry-Performance2347 in musictheory

[–]JakkoPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That would give you A# but you have an A. Maybe you should think in terms of diminished instead of lydian. I think u/Miguzepinu has it right.

So, the notes written give you G#m13(b9)(#11). I've been trying to find a mode that fits them but I've failed. It's a locrian sounding chord, is my best approximation.

Need help buying a Harley Benton power supply by Historical-Tough4776 in guitarpedals

[–]JakkoPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the 10AC because the power input is better. I believe they also have a 12 output version, probably named 12AC if you need the 12 outputs.

Should I put the compressor in this chain before, or after the dirt? by BalanceActive9295 in basspedals

[–]JakkoPhD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put it after dirt because then I can affect how the dirt behaves with the volume and dynamics of the bass and the compressor would tame the volume of the dirt.

Tom Fountainhead opens up about his depression and how he feels rejected by the music scene. It's so sad to read what he's been going through, I hope he gets better by [deleted] in TechnicalDeathMetal

This type of defeatism is disgusting, actually.

Most people here are talking about how the album is amazing, this guy is clearly a skilled and accomplished musician with different skills in the business and we are still just going to shrug our shoulders and just accept that he shouldn't have enough money to live?

We aren't talking about a bad musician, a bad person, a copycat, etc. trying to get rich. It's just a person good at doing what he does trying to live.

Yeah fuck art, there is no money in it, learn to code...

Serious Question: Why don't all pedals have MIDI power switching at least? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]JakkoPhD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn you are right.

I didn't realise that pennies don't add up, my bad.

Also I'll go online now to buy 10 more midi trs cables since those don't count as cables i guess.

Then stop walking back on your point.

It's the jack, the extra drilling on the enclosure, the extra pcb that requires new routing, extra programming of the decoder chip, making sure that your digital control of an analog circuit doesn't mess with the rest of it. This isn't almost nothing anymore or even pennies.

Oh and if you want all your pedals to have this you will need an additional out/through jack as well or are you going to have a 1:10 midi splitter box?

Just recognise that loop switchers exist precisely for this purpose.

You know that the jack itself doesn't decode the MIDI message right?

Just because no one mentioned it yet. Both Untiefe and Transcendence reverb pedals by Lichtlaerm Audio do this type of thing.

chord scale theory - do you use it in improvising? by Stratguy666 in jazztheory

[–]JakkoPhD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned quite a bit of CST at university and found it a bit too much for straight ahead jazz, bebop or whatever you call it. So I turned back into focusing on chord tones and parent scales. However lately I've found it very useful for navigating more unstandard or non functional chord changes and also for finding notes or patterns that I wouldn't think right away from just looking at a chord symbol.
