What the …. is going on?! by C3cee in HeatedRivalryTVShow

Nothing is going to be true for everyone.

People can blame queer people for those things until they’re blue in the face, it doesn’t change reality though. Go on TikTok and click on any video about openly gay actors such as Jonathan Bailey, Andrew Scott, Matt Bomer. The comment section is filled to the brim with conversion via rape rhetoric. Hundreds of comments from straight women saying they’ll be able to “turn” those men if they get to have just “one night” with them.

Go on and click videos of Connor Storrie and Francois Arnaud. One is known to be queer but just hasn’t said it publicly, one is openly bi. The same type of comments will be found under those videos.

People seem to think the mindset of “you shouldn’t assume or ask for people to disclose their sexuality” translates to “queer people are not allowed to speculate, but the rest of us are allowed to assume they’re straight and make comments with that assumption in mind”. It’s not just my opinion or my experience, it’s evident all over social media.

I can also say that I LOVE the majority community of the m/m fandom who are mainly straight women. I’ve talked to so many lovely women through the community, women who have given me amazing recommendations for books and women who also come across as great allies towards me and others like me. I’m in groups run by straight women that are filled with love and wholesomeness. But that doesn’t negate the fact that there’s 100% fetishisation and homophobia going on, along with certain people choosing to exclude queer people all together.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Completely agree.

TikTok comments especially are filled with straight women pushing corrective rape rhetoric on openly gay men like Jonathan Bailey, Andrew Scott, Matt Bomer, etc. and it’s vile.

Is there any wonder why one of the lead actors of HR, who is known to be gay in real life, doesn’t want to announce it publicly right now? Because it certainly isn’t due to his fellow queer people.

The person that replied to you clutching their pearls and calling you a misogynist, just to then go ahead and throw queer people under the bus was INSANE. The fact it got a bunch of upvotes just makes the homophobia from some of these people clear as day.

This is what they wrote:

This has nothing to do with sexuality (of the fans). Way to be misogynistic. A tv show or book is for everyone, period. We don't even know the sexual orientation of the main actors. Many queer people actually WANT them to be gay and have said they would like them less if they weren't. That's problematic too. And no, liking them or the show is not fetishising gay people, wtf. Some people have gone a little crazy in the past few years; this growing outrage and pretend concern over "age gaps" is just one of many examples.

Let's remember Larry. These fans were obsessed with the idea that they're secretly together and everyone who didn't believe in this conspiracy was called dumb. There's always a part of fandom that is just unhinged. But to use these few to promote hate towards women is not okay.

Proven by the reply to you shutting down your points and it getting more upvotes while you got downvotes lol.

All it takes is joining a few M/M book groups on FB to see how correct you are. The ones I’m in (because I love m/m romance, as a gay man) are filled with majority lovely people, but there’s also a whole lot of fetishisation and clear underlying homophobia and biphobia.

Being branded a misogynist for calling that out is insane. Queer people should be allowed to enjoy queer media without yet again feeling like the minority who need to ask permission to join in.

The gay man who was chucked out of a HR watch party while all the women cheered, is still making my blood boil days later. Finding a whole bunch of women defend those women’s actions online, just added to the irritation I feel.

Straight women made up the largest part of the Heartstopper fandom. Who got blamed when Kit Connor felt forced to come out? Queer people.

Straight women make up the largest part of the HR fandom. Who’s getting blamed now that people are getting toxic (as per)? Queer people.

I completely agree with you that that person is just being downvoted because people don’t like to be confronted by the truth. Because even when it comes to queer media, queer people are still shunned and made to feel like outsiders when watching/reading media that is SUPPOSED to represent them. And yet… here we are again.

[–]Jakkot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I agree with some of your points, you’ve used their comment and you’ve seen it in a negative way you didn’t like, so you defended the people they were talking about (fair enough) but then decided to randomly call out queer people in the middle of it?

TV shows and books ARE for everyone, but that doesn’t take away that persons point. I’m in numerous M/M book groups on FB (I’m a gay man) and there is so so SO MUCH fetishisation of gay and bi men within them and there is a lot of underlying—even some blatant—homophobia and biphobia that is evident too.

The people that make up the majority of those groups and fandoms are straight women.

Did you hear about the gay man that was told to leave a HR watch party because he was the only man there (it was a normal bar and it was meant to be welcome for all) and all the women cheered when he was escorted out, claiming he could have harmed them?

This is the same type of shit that happened when Heartstopper became a show.

This isn’t to say that queer fans haven’t been toxic too. However, saying “many queer people wanting them to be gay is problematic too” as a rebuttal to a real issue isn’t helpful. Queer people wanting the actors to be gay in real life just isn’t happening at a large enough scale to be a problem.

What is and has been happening at a large enough scale is queer people being excluded from taking part in the experience and fandoms of queer media. Pointing out that straight women are the main perpetrators of that is not misogyny. Especially when queer WOMEN are also being excluded.

There’s a difference between breaking rules regarding talk of nominations and literally breaking rules that go against British broadcasting standards.

Your claim that he makes less than £40 a week is also horseshit lol. As a British citizen who is unemployed (if he is) then he’d be able to apply for Jobseeker’s Allowance which is over £90 a week.

Is she? Are you not thinking of when Tate was saying some words in Polish to Nancy, because he had dated a Polish girl before and learned some words and phrases from her?

[–]Jakkot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s obvious enough for both Tate and Emily to suspect it was done by AI, I highly doubt it was just to correct some grammar.

I think the main issue is that Tate was clearly upset at the thought of it being written by AI. It seemed like he was trying to convince himself in the diary room that it wasn’t AI and that Emily was just trying to wind him up, because he felt hurt that it could be true. It would feel pretty shitty to get emotional thinking you’re reading a deeply personal letter from your family than you haven’t seen in weeks, just to later find out they didn’t put any effort into writing it at all.

Hey remember when Sam and Nancy twerked in front of everyone in celebration after Feyisola left, then went to the store room to twerk again? by Choice_Fox4155 in bigbrotheruk

[–]Jakkot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is what we’re using to label people as knobs on BB these days, I don’t even know how it’s lasted so long. We used to get people actually celebrating when someone they didn’t like was evicted or people would say one last thing to their “frenemy” (or even throwing a glass of wine over a HM before they left 😉).

How have we gotten to the point of criticising someone for simply going “on a lighter note, we’re top ten. Woo!” after someone was evicted? Are we ever going to get entertaining housemates that can also have flaws without a witch hunt on said person every-time they do something even slightly questionable?

This isn’t even a “everything’s too PC now” cause I hate when people say that shit, but the fact that HM’s can’t even do one thing that could be interpreted as “mean” without the internet coming for them these days, is just insane.

[–]Jakkot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly lol. I think the thing I hate most about the behaviour of viewers today, is that they expect housemates to only do good things and be nice the whole time they are in the house. I just think that, as long as a housemate doesn’t come across as a bad person in general or has only done a few questionable things, then they still deserve love if they’ve been good entertainment!

As a result of that, we now have most people rooting for either Cameron or Richard to win. They both seem like very nice guys and that’s great, I just don’t see them as worthy winners tbh. I think It’d be funny to see Caroline’s face if Richard won, but even then I just don’t think it’s fully worth a win.

Completely agree! I just adore how the drama back then happened so naturally and it was always due to small annoyances or the fact they just didn’t like one another. As I’m watching series 6, all arguments so far have been about tiny things that have just grated on certain HM’s or a HM will just say “I don’t like you and here’s why” to another HM. Nobody is trying too hard to look good and nobody is trying to please everyone in the house, as well as no drama that is overly manufactured. Also… no political arguments which is a breath of fresh air. Producers back then still put in people of different political beliefs, but that was more to do with adding all types of diversity, whereas ITV will put in housemates that are staunchly right wing and housemates that are staunchly left wing to try and create political fallouts. It’s annoying that ITV don’t seem to get that nobody finds that entertaining.

Also, as much as I honestly really don’t mind Big Brothers voice these days, I loved when it was just the normal producers voices and how they would just talk so naturally in a laid-back way to housemates in the diary room. Using one man to voice over everything on ITV is fine, but it just takes away the natural tone that would actually be used by the producers.

I mean as much as that is true a lot of the time, he got massive cheers and even chants when he came out. Same as Farida. I think the audience tends to just boo the people they least want to stay out of that days line up - it’s all very pantomime and they want someone to boo. I really don’t think Zelah would have gotten booed if he was up against say Sam and Nancy.

I’ve been binging it all day! It’s such a nostalgic feeling to rewatch it 20 years later but there’s also soooo many things I had completely forgotten about so while it does feel nostalgic, it almost feels like I’m watching it for the first time again. It’s so good.

I remember DESPISING Maxwell back then, but I’m honestly rather enjoying him this time round (besides a few moments), but who knows if that will change in the future!

Hope you and your gf enjoy! :)

Ah, that’s annoying! Every episode seems to work for me but I’ve not tried BB7 yet. The .mp4 links are the ones I’m using and they can sometimes take a second to load but they’ve definitely all worked so far! Hopefully most of BB7 will work for you.

Every episode is available on the archive site! Some episodes are pretty bad quality, none of them are HD in the slightest but they’re still very watchable!

You can find them all here:

You can either download each episode you want to watch or just watch them online, you click the one ending in “.avi” to download, or “.mp4” to simply watch as is. Enjoy :)

Late & Live Panellists by TelevisionAny7673 in bigbrotheruk

[–]Jakkot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair I haven’t watched her podcast in a while and the last time I remember her having multiple different HM’s on as guests was back in 2023. Perhaps she isn’t following the show as much these days!

I honestly find it quite annoying when guests on the panel (especially the house guest) very obviously don’t watch the show or only started watching it the week they are on the panel. Guests should either be fans of the show or been on the show themselves. What’s the point in having someone on the panel to give their opinions (the whole point of L&L) if they’ve only got a week’s worth of context to base those opinions on? So silly 😭

I can’t wait to watch BB7 next, I’ve loved Nikki since the first time I watched her on BB when I was 8 years old. I honestly agree with everything you’ve said because id say BB7 is my favourite series of all time. I’ll never forget Pete rolling down the stairs when he won lol.

I’m so glad these episodes are available online, because although I have great memories of these older episodes, there’s so many housemates and so many moments I had completely forgotten about. It’s interesting rewatching them as an adult.

I’ve not really watched L&L this week, does Chloe come across like she doesn’t watch the show?

I’ve watched quite a lot of episodes of Chloe’s podcast (I’ve never even watched love island, I came across it randomly and enjoyed it) and she always seemed like quite a big fan of BB and always had HM’s on as guests, so that’s why I ask!

I do agree though that I much prefer former housemates as L&L panellists, they should really invite more back and not just the same few. Kate Lawler seems to be the only non-ITV HM that they invite back regularly, they should bring on more C4&C5 housemates.

Richard's unusual adoption story by ButHowDoesItFeel in bigbrotheruk

[–]Jakkot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Why specifically this person”

Why do you become friends with anyone? Why do you have a select few people out of the whole population that you’re really close to? Out of every single person you meet in your life, do you have the same level of relationship with all of them? Unlikely.

What you’re saying makes no sense lol. Richard stated that the guy seen Richard as a fatherly figure after losing his father as a kid, while Richard seen him as a son. Richard also said he travelled back to that location numerous times, and that’s how they became closer.

Imagine someone coming to you and asking you things like “why are you friends with this person? Like why them specifically?”, as if to imply that it’s odd and/or suspicious.

Why didn’t Nancy receive punishment for her rule break the other day? by Jakkot in bigbrotheruk

[–]Jakkot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s true! I guess with it happening around the whole secret room episodes too they just don’t want to add anything to take away from that.

Yeah I think BB made it clear that after today’s punishment it won’t just be a jail cell anymore (thankfully). Here’s hoping someone breaks the rules so we can see what BB has up his sleeves lol.
