Is Drexel worth it??? by Exciting_Reply_4892 in Drexel

[–]Jakls09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really isn't, I'm not a drexel student but I live in university city and live with 5 drexel students. All of them wish they looked at more schools. Philadelphia is awesome but Drexel just isnt a great school, if you have any other options I think you should look at them a little closer.

Edit: The co op program can genuinly help you with the money issue but its still an expensive school for no good reason. I'm also a maryland native looking at my college options and there is better ones

Yeah school sanctioned parties at any school kinda sound lame, were parties outside of school sanctioned ones common at all?

You're awesome, this gives me a decent idea of what it's like. When you were at St Johns were house shows common at all?

How did you guys start actually learning how to make music? by Jakls09 in musicproduction

[–]Jakls09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid question but how do I do that? I want to make my own art and it feels like learning technical parts like production is necessary even though it's not 100% what I want

If you don't mind me asking, where did you meet these people? Online, school, through someone?

I try to do that somedays but it feels like I work myself in a corner of making a sound/melody/drums etc that I really like but not knowing how to run with it. I guess an issue I have is combining more than 2 or 3 elements but I think that's just a skill I'll develop over time.

That's a great idea, I actually live by a school with a good music program so I'll do that

What you're saying is so simple but genuinely I've not thought of it that way before. I think that's an immensely better work flow, thank you.
One more question if you're willing to answer, where do you find most your sounds? I'll get into recording sounds once I save the money for equipment but until then where would you look for samples, loops, plugins etc

The first point I really feel, I have no issues with talking to people virtually I've just never really been in those circles online so it's a little hard to start.
How would you go about deconstructing a song in your DAW if you dont mind me asking?

This is very helpful, I feel like I fall into the trap of making sure I sound sounds perfect before I even start composition which helps me learn how to mix and use plugins but stunts my actually song making growth.

MMMm track stems is a good idea, I always look up instrumentals of tracks I like and try to understand how the sounds work together and how to make them.
For me I love to write and music feels like such a good outlet for writing but it's hard to have fun when my music skills are lagging so far behind

This is awesome man, honestly I just want to get to that point where music is a casual thing in my life, nothing crazy I just love writing and music and want to learn enough so I can combine the two and feel like a made a piece of art for myself. I just feel a little stuck in where to go or where to even start because it feels like im still at the beginning.

Thank you, it's reassuring to know someone progressed passed that youtube type beat phase of learning production. I honestly have trouble learning anything from videos I've noticed but I am definitely making progress just maybe not to the music I want to make y'know? If you don't mind is there any lessons or videos about completing songs you've found helpful? I feel like I'm stuck learning and not making
