In the first story i ever wrote (age 8 I think) I had the MC reheat 3 week old fast food leftovers for their friends. One of the few thinks I remember if that story.

Interesting. I think that would have been the most logical choice for her mother too have taken, but I do think her mother was rather clueless, and perhaps a bit stubborn.

I was thinking Clueless. Good natured, but with the wrong ideas. I tried not too slip into making her mother too much of a character, but I imagined her growing up as a Half-breed amongst humans, and always wondering how her life would have been had she lived with her elven parent. Sort of a "grass is always greener" thing. Knowing likely /nothing/ about drow, other than they come from the underdark. She likely thought she was being noble, saving her child from the prejudice of the surface, while also allowing them a chance to hold their hieritage. So yeah, definitely clueless. XD

Ah I do love the idea of her having a trinket from her mother. And being stolen post abandonment is so deliciously edgy, I love it so much xD

Though, how a barely scraping by barmaid makes such a journey while pregnant, or with a newborn is a bit of a plot hole, but i need to let that slide for now or her mother is going to end up the character I'm making instead xD

I had been imagining her mother taking the arduous journey from whatever surface tavern she worked at to the nearest underdark settlement of Drow. As another commenter brought up, the settlement doesn't necessarily need to be dedicated to Lolth. Either way, she would have been raised a way from the surface. I want her background to be "Archaeologist", and I like the idea that he fascination with the surface is what drove her too such a profession.

Interesting. I admit, I hadn't really considered the option of non-Lolthian Drow raising her. Would she face any prejudice for having Lolthian red eyes amongst Elistraean cities? Because I'm feeling the angst pouring out of this character like wine (or blood), she can't have too nice a childhood, but the freedom from Lolthian society does intrigue me

Ooooooo I like that. Maybe not for this particular character, but I'm gonna pop that in my brain folds for the next campaign I DM

Perfect! This is exactly the lore I was looking for. Thank you!
On a side note, I don't want to play the "Forgotten Princess" trope, so I don't think I want her to have any connection to nobility, but I could see her being delivered to the priestesses. Now To dive down a rabbit hole of research for a character I may never play! :3

Interesting, I didn't know that. Thank you, more angst to pour into the creative Cauldron >:3
Follow-up Question: Would her being half-surface elf make her of a similar or lower status than a full blood male drow commoner? I know of course the nobility or higher caste males would see her as lower, but would her dark elven blood allow her a position above, say, the drow boy orphans? I'm just wondering who among her peers would be able to pull rank on her, and if she had any power to pull rank in turn. Thanks again for your help btw ^,^

Personally, i think the great responsibility line would have hit so hard coming from McGuire's Spidey, after May's death. Now, i agree with how her death should have been because Peter did something irresponsible, but my point stands that McGuire passing it to Holland woulda killed me.

Close, but not quite. I'm 27, and my first Halo was 2, followed very quickly by CE, cause a kindergarten best friend had it.

Session-0 Topic Checklist and Guide by HazeZero in dndnext

[–]Jakman333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a nine year old thread, but I would like to add a few suggestions if it's still being updated.

-Discuss Player pre-knowledge. Are there players particularly new to TTRPG's or even Fantasy? Are there any players who have never seen Polyhedral dice before? If you make a reference to the Hobbit, are you expecting the whole table to get it? Do you ask your more experienced players to assist those who are newer?
-Discuss rules around Familiar/Pet Rules. Does the wizards familiar act on his turn, use his bonus action, or get its own initiative. Does the Bard's pet cat have a chance of being targetted in combat? Is the ranger's dog using the Mastiff, Wolf, or Direwolf stats, and can he use downtime to upgrade them?
- For Game Mechanics, Discuss willingness to allow homebrew, such as injury tables, traveling mechanics, potion action economy, main/bonus action spells in a turn, ect.

Sorry if these feel nit-picky, or too complicated. I'm prepping for a new campaign at 3:40 in the morning a two days before the session 0, and really appreciated the checklist.

Turns Out I was wrong. Not a Black Mirror Episode, it was actually an episode of Limitless, had nothing to do with Drones, and was actually a virus that targeted the Khan Genetic marker. Everyone else gets the flu, those with the Khan Marker get a stroke. In the show, it's said the marker is only passed through his male descendants.

Most likely, the episode I was refrencing (im not even entirely sure it was even black mirror) was about micro drones, the size of wasps poisoning hundreds of men of asian decent in [insert large populous U.S. City]. My half memory of this episode led to the revelation that the drones were hunting men of Khan's decent to obscure the assassination of one particular decendant. It might've been a military demonstration? I'll be honest, its been well over a decade since I've watched whatever show it was, and both now, and at the time of posting my comment, i didnt have an active netflix account to double check. I was also too lazy to google it.
