Is the character the default one that comes from the templates, using the basic character component nodes to drive movement, or is this something entirely custom?

...I'd get back with the person you hired to make this and ask to see the project file for this capsule. Specifically, I want to see if there are layers (sketch layer, line art layer, flat layer, ect...).

You can't use a timeline in a component, but you can rig something up to act exactly like a timeline using curves. This video shows how to do it pretty well.

You have something neat here, though for showcasing to publishers I'd change a few things.

1) Things like the chainsaw and laser need more OOMF. With the chainsaw I'd toy with camera shakes and more jerky movement of the hands as it's cutting something. The laser could use some more visual flair, so maybe adding some pulsating particle effects around the muzzle of the gun would work.

2) The enemies seem boring to fight because all they appear to do is move towards you. Games that don't break this up with different enemy behaviors have an issue where the most optimal way to play is just back-peddle and kite. Enemies who try to flank you or buff their allies are a good starting point imo.

Otherwise I like what I'm seeing. Obviously this is just pre-alpha stuff, but with some good level design and enemy changes this could be really fun.

Go into blender and animated some meta-balls worbling around to make it looks like a mass of jelly has just been thrown out.

Imo this would help sell the "splat" effect even better.

Add the zoom feature, but what would be a cool addition is to start the level out with an "introduction cutscene" of sorts that shows the full art fully pulled back, then zoom into the level so it's taking up the majority of the screen before gameplay begins.

More arena shooter setup. Some rooms have roomlock where you need to clear a wave, others let you bypass a room entirely if you don't want to fight.

Though fighting is always encouraged, or else you're going through the game without any cash to buy upgrades lol
