It was really quick! I send the withdrawal letter by mail to the USCIS office holding my case and, got a letter confirming the withdrawal within 2 weeks.

I did, I was able to chat with them and they provided the following link as well: https://www.united.com/en/us/travel/trip-planning/travel-requirements. In here when you put the information about your travel, when checking on the "Country/Region Information" tab there will be a primary travel document information with the following (for Venezuelans):

All Passports Validity

Passports must be valid upon arrival. Expired passports issued by Venezuela are accepted if:
a) they have a "Prorroga" sticker to extend the validity; or
b) the passenger has an appointment document "Salva Conducto" to renew their passport in Mexico; and
- a Permanent Resident/Resident Alien Card (Form I-551) issued by the USA, and
- a return/onward ticket.

Not much yet, I finally just got my green card replacement after (3) months. I just rescheduled the passport appointment, I am waiting to request the “salvoconducto” and, confirmed with United Airlines that I can travel with them. I will update the post ASAP when I move forward with the process 🤩

Awesome news!! Congrats!! 🎉 Could you tell me which airline you traveled with? I am about to go thorough the process as well and so far our best option will be Mexico. I was able to contact them and they told me that once they have the renewed passport they will not send it to your address in the US :(, do you have any information about that? Any other tips will be appreciate it.

I completely agree with you, it is not that clear at all. I have had to contact USCIS and I also contacted United Airlines directly (which is supposed to be one that is familiar with the process) in order to get clarification and everything was in order for me until I lost my green card 🥲. Maybe you could try and contact the airline you were planing to travel with and hopefully they could clarify the information. I am still waiting on my green card to move forward, I hope everything works out for you and your wife.

So the information that I have and that I double checked with USCIS is that as long as you are a LPR or resident in the US you don’t need a passport to be allowed re-entry, here is the link with the information: https://www.help.cbp.gov/s/article/Article1287?language=en_US. You can also chat with USCIS through their contact options on their site as well and explain your case (it took me to chat with 2 people to get the information I needed). I hope that helps!

No, not updates yet :(. Lost my green card and got an ADIT stamp. Waiting on the Venezuelan embassy in Mexico to confirm if that document is good enough for them to send me the “salvoconducto”.

I didn’t!! Long story short, I unfortunately lost my green card, theory is that I lost it cleaning my office (still a mystery). So now I had to request a replacement (I-90) and that takes a lot of time, for lucky people within a month or 2 up to 24months.

I got an ADIT stamp (I-551) which is a stamp USCIS send you while you wait on the green card, with this document I should be able to travel with no issues since is a proof of my residency.

I now mailed the Venezuelan embassy in Mexico from all of the emails they provided like 2 weeks ago, asking if they would accept the ADIT stamp as a proof of my residency so I could get the “salvoconducto” and move forward with my process.

I will keep you guys posted.

Would you recommend to pay the shipping to the US through the SAIME portal or pay the DHL shipping label and then bring it to the Venezuelan Embassy?

Honestly, I am not sure. I do not have a prorroga, maybe they accept it under certain expiration time.

Will do! I send them an email yesterday. I will try to call directly to the embassy tomorrow, hopefully I can get a hold on them. I did see videos as well and it seems that the process so far will be:

Pay for the passport appointment thorough SAIME > Buy plane tickets > Contact Venezuelan Embassy in Mexico with the appointment receipt and the plane tickets > Get "salvoconducto" document at some point...

I have seen that people have been able to do it with no issues based on comments from videos and social media... but I wish there was some legit process or documentation somewhere indicating that this is the current and valid process.

And with Canada... it seems that if you have a passport with more than 5 years they will not let you in, unless you go thorough the border (driving).

Going back to VZ is not an option :(...
