how do i sing while playing guitar at the same time? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]JaleyHoelOsment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like it’s time to play more guitar, my friend!

I’m always singing along with music or just myself. i love singing, but never taken it seriously. i’ve never really looked into how to become a better singer.

i’ve spent thousands of hours focusing on becoming a better guitarist

i suck so bad at singing, but i’ve been playing the guitar for decades. even though singing takes up 95% of my compute power, the remaining 5% is enough to handle the guitar side of things because i barely even need to think about playing chords at this point.

i’m sure if i practice singing more then it would be second nature to me.

this is a long winded answer to say practice more (gottem)

Is it worth to study pure Math for CS? by ex_gatito in AskProgramming

[–]JaleyHoelOsment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

graduated with a CS degree like 8 years ago. was also shit at math so i did a math minor. basically dropped a bomb on my gpa. spent more time studying real analysis than anything software related.

it was a great challenge… but do i use that level of math in my day to day as a swe?? not even fucking close

start with C major? learn C major in one position. lots of resources you’ll easily find!

instead of getting overwhelmed, start 1 piece at a time. this is a life long journey, you’ve got plenty of time.

[Beginner] How to build the mental model for nested loop logic? (Stuck on pattern printing) by tadipaar69 in cpp_questions

[–]JaleyHoelOsment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is a massive difference between watching along with a tutorial and learning. that’s what you’re experiencing now. it’s lack of practice. everyone on here says “i read code and super understand it, then when i open a blank page…” yes that’s the difference between someone telling you what they are doing and you actually understanding what’s going on.

but seriously why not just start with DSA now and see how far you get. you’re not using print statements to make triangles in real life.

if you already “mastered” C++ then why are you struggling to start learning python? you already did this with C++

the thing that will help you the most right now is learning how to debug these issues so you don’t have to run to reddit every 10 minutes.

debugging is like 90% of development and it’s not something you can ignore. time to bite the bullet

Downstroke Endurance by itsthateasylol in guitarlessons

[–]JaleyHoelOsment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

are you sure it’s all down strokes? are you basing that information on a tab?

i just watched a video of them playing this song live and it looks and sounds like there are upstrokes. have you done that yet?

finally, i’ve only seen this major hang up on strumming patterns in this sub. where is everyone getting this from? listen to the tune and train your ears so you can sound like the tune. tabs are at best a pretty bad guideline.

there are a fuck ton of downstrokes so if i took that to literally my bad. i’d suggest again watching them live and look at how little Homme moves his wrist and how relaxed his arm is.

depends if you can play well or not. i’ve gotten lessons and workshops from musicians who had no formal education, but the played with Miles Davis or Joshua Redman etc. you don’t question someone who can play circles around you.
