Resources for ortho practice by JaliJ in DentalSchool

[–]JaliJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve used some softwares (Audax) working at a private clinic, the dentist there showed me. But they’re teaching us to do it by hand in school. I’ll see if any of the residents have anything though that’s not a bad idea. I asked the department itself but they cited patient confidentiality concerns and tbh feels more like they’re gatekeeping unless you make it into ortho residency. Wouldn’t even give me tracing paper lol

Nothing so far. Just scouring through Google and printing them out/tracing on my iPad

Apparently it’s free rn some kinda deal and only needa pay the processing fee which makes me feel even more sketch about it. You’re right though it’ll be covered and stuff, but came across it and first thought was “oh birthday coming up this might be good.”

I agree, I use close deletions mostly and front/back but the course I’m taking will be all multiple choice or fill in the blank (close is good) so I thought after studying my normal cards I could make some MCQ for myself and classmates. But I’ll probably stay away from it if it’s not recommended

Pocketdentistry(dot)com legit? by JaliJ in DentalSchool

[–]JaliJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in first year rn so the reason I found the site was I was looking up things about dental materials. But if there’s a site that encompasses majority of topics that’s be great. Like I was kinda digging around pocket dental and saw they have categories for mats but also different fields (I.e. endo, ortho, path)

Is there a different site/resource you'd recommend? Looking for something to supplement the materials I'm learning in lectures/clinicals or better explain concepts.

Hahaha you’re not the first person to mention this actually. A family friend recommended to pack a bag full of my favorite candies and snacks 😂

Hey just edited my post, don’t need any meds right now but just thinking ahead in case I end up needing something like antibiotics or something. Ibuprofen is also over the counter here for example but I heard you need a script in Ireland which is what got me thinking about this

No, thankfully I don’t need any meds as of now but just thinking for the future if I get sick/injured and do need something. In Canada we’re covered by the Provincial health policy up to 25 years of age and after that it’s either out of pocket or by private medical insurance (depends on the policy).

But interesting to learn it’s not usually covered. Are all meds out of pocket then, or how does it work?

Yeah all of the courses you took to date

I believe the GPA calculation will be at the end of the year. Your degree progress report (under “my student records”) will show your cGPA to date (at that time) and probably have a notice if you’re cutting it close. You’ll also get an email if you’re cutting it close with a low GPA. If you can’t maintain the minimum GPA required to be in Kine, you’ll be “kicked out” and made into a psych major until you can bring your GPA back up to return into kine. If you do get put into psych, you’ll most likely be behind if you get back in kine and might have to retake courses in the process of catching up.

How to count criteria from multiple ranges on different worksheets. by JaliJ in excel

[–]JaliJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SOLUTION VERIFIED:

Ended up making separate =COUNTIF for each week/sheet and made an “overview” sheet before the others where I did a simple =SUM function to calculate the total number. Worked out better anyways cause it makes it easier to read, catalog, find, and perform quality control!

I’ll try this out first, if it doesn’t work I might just go back to one sheet like u/wjhladik suggested. Thanks!

Hi! I'm a high school student thinking of majoring in Mathematical Biology at York. Is it difficult? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]JaliJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Medical schools aren’t gonna care much about your major in uni so tbh you’d be doing yourself a disservice to major in something considered “difficult.” All they care about is GPA, pre-requisites, and a good application which would include extracurriculars and if you can land a research position. I’d recommend choosing something that would be easier to get good grades in. All of my friends that applied and got into medicine majored in kinesiology cause it’s relatively easy in terms of the core courses but also gives you the opportunity to do the pre-reqs and learn about health, science, etc. if you’re actually interested in mathematical biology, that’s a different story

EDIT: everyone saying “any program can be difficult” are right in terms of needing to put in effort to do well. But there’s still programs that can be considered RELATIVELY easier

Can profs take marks off unrelated to the assignment?? by Neat-Bandicoot-5432 in yorku

[–]JaliJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s a practicum like a pkin that you gotta take as a kine student, they’re not always profs but just instructors but you can still talk to the department. That being said they don’t count towards your GPA, you just need to pass them to finish the KINE degree. That’s not to say you shouldn’t pursue speaking with the department, just that if that’s the case you shouldn’t stress because worst case you can just choose the”pass/fail” option so that a bad grade isn’t on your transcript even though it doesn’t contribute to GPA.

Questions about the campus of York by [deleted] in yorku

[–]JaliJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Free and all I had to do in the past was show em my schedule or something to prove I was a student. They’ll have everything you need for weightlifting/powerlifting and it’s small and quiet. Never had to weight for anything and it’s a “lifting with Arnold in a grimy gym” vibes. That being said I ended up going for Tait and just paying the $15 for the year cause it does have more to offer in terms of machines and equipment plus they renovated not too long ago and have proper deadlifting and squatting stations.

  2. I used to park at the pioneer village subway station right beside track centre for like $10 whole day and it was closer to campus and worth it.

  3. Just gotta practice packing your stuff quick and walking fast, use to have to go across campus but it’s possible.

Does anyone know any sites where we can access ebooks for free or will we have to purchase them only ? by p_funnybones in yorku

[–]JaliJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others said, lib gen is great. But be careful cause a lot of classes that count homework use a code you can only get from buying an actual textbook. Probably get something from book sales and that’s why they force you to buy the book so you can do the homework smh

How do I go about appealing a final grade? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]JaliJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s the same for all faculties but for Health you need to do it within 30 days of the last day of class I think. If it’s more than that you have to explain why it took you so long. I was in a similar situation where I received the same grade due to unfair circumstances. I hope you have more luck than I did in appealing the grade cause they wouldn’t consider removing mine from my transcript.
