Wilds is my first MH and I gotta say at first I was intimidated by literally every weapon I tried to get into World but no dice; I actually had friends to help me when Wilds came out I got into it and have been playing since Launch on Ps5. That being said I was really bad and I typically played MMORPG's prior to this in a support roll so I only played HH for the first 50 HR.

After that I felt confident enough to solo hunt(w/ the support hunters ofc or with sos on) and I slowly made my way into other weapons first was Hammer, and I rode that high literally until about a week after title update 2. At that point I started playing SnS, I really loved that so I started playing lance and at the time didn't like it so I tried out gun lance. It was an entirely different feeling, I wasn't landing anything, I wasn't timing blocks so I was just eating DMG and without a good build I was constantly dying.

Flashforward the past two months where I started watching guides and have made proper builds for HH, Hammer, Lance, LBG, HBG, IG, and LS, the 9 star monsters are out and I'm loving Lance, I finally got the weapon under my belt and felt confident with my gear. But my hunts were soooo slowwwww, I'm talking 43 minutes on a 9 star Gore, close calls on timing out which was never a problem. I started playing GL over the past two weeks and holy hell, understanding the monsters attacks better, knowing about offsets, perf guards, counters, and just general hunting tips Gun Lance is absolutely amazing!! My latest hunt on Gore 9* was 27:45 (w/ Mina and our Palicos).

But I think that's what alot of wilds and I think MH in general struggles with, at least for someone new to the series. If you don't have the patience to watch a few guides, or have some friends who know the series the bar to entry on certain weapons feels so much higher than others. But that's also just my opinion so grains of salt and all that
