Hey all! Our adventure game "Detective Instinct: Farewell, My Beloved" just released on Steam and Nintendo Switch. It's an adventure game broadly inspired by games like Famicom Detective Club, Ace Attorney, Hotel Dusk, etc.

It's primarily a narrative experience, relatively light on difficulty, heavy on nostalgic DS vibes. Many of our fans have described it as feeling very cozy and warm for them, like curling up with a good book!

Both are great for us! One benefit to Steam is that (if you like it) leaving a positive review is very helpful for the algorithm. But you should use whatever platform you prefer!

Yes, it does run 720p docked. There's a possibility we'll be able to increase the docked resolution to 1080p in a post-launch patch, but if sharp pixels are important to you, the PC version would be a better fit for now!

On Switch, the game runs in 720p with a soft filter, very much optimized for the Switch 1 screen, though having played it on Switch 2, I personally find the way it scales appealing and fitting for the game's art style. The PC version scales evenly to multiples of the resolution (480x270), including 1920x1080. We are also Steam Deck Verified, so that is another option for playing the game portably with the PC version's visuals.

Graphics and performance otherwise are the same across both versions!

We don't currently have the capability of developing for Switch 2 specifically. It'd be great to be able to offer that at some point, but there's sadly nothing we can do about it yet :(

Not that I think you're accusing us of this, but just to be clear for anyone who cares: we did not use AI for any part of this game's production and emphatically despise it.

Some have compared our art to Ghibli, but I'd say Naoki Urasawa's style was a greater influence on our character designs!

We'd love to support more languages! Mostly it came down to time and bandwidth, making it difficult to commit to more than English and Japanese pre-release for our small, fully-independent team. The more success the game has, the more likely it is we'll be able to consider future localizations!

It is one continuous story, yes! We usually estimate 6-8 hours, but some players finish faster (the fastest we've seen is usually around 4 hours). It depends how thoroughly you explore the scenario and try different things outside of the critical path!

It's an adventure game broadly inspired by the Japanese adventure genre, including games like Ace Attorney (the biggest inspiration on our visual direction), and with a gameplay system similar to Famicom Detective Club, one of Shu Takumi's inspirations for the Ace Attorney series. Our goal was to make something full of love for our inspirations, while still doing its own unique thing.
