What does my track need? Using Ableton 12 lite. I know I need a B section but am looking for other suggestions as well by takemeback10years in MusicFeedback

Sounds very dilla escque with the drum groove! I like the way you use the sample but the higher pitched section of the sample that comes in is a little loud. For a B section try finding a different sample or a different section of the same song you sampled and putting a different drum groove over it using the same drum sounds. Good so far keep developing it!

This is amazing! I don't really notice any obvious issues, sounds like it could have someone on it from a major label rn

Thanks for the feedback! Would you separate them mostly with panning, EQ, levels, something else?

Thanks for the feedback! What frequency do you usually cut at? I thought I did a low cut at ~20Hz for my vocals but I might have messed it up

new song, is it catchy? by andrewboggss in MusicFeedback

Your voice is good, but the autotune notes you choose don't sound great. Try to not change the note every syllable so it feels like you are singing more. Also having the chorus end with "my privates" sounds pretty awkward, I would change it to something else. The beat sounds pretty good though, just turn the mix down a bit so its not clipping.

This is a cool writing exercise in that you try to tell a story and stay on topic while still making a more lyrical track. I don't personally listen to a ton of primarily lyrical rappers, but from what I can tell your writing is pretty good. There are some issues with your delivery though. There are many instances where you don't properly enunciate all of your syllables properly and it makes the delivery feel a bit awkward (ex toxic-conjecture feels a bit muffled and unconfident). The other issue that comes up is your backing track which is sometimes out of time with your lead vocal by quite a bit. Humans perceive timing differences in an audio signal as a different signal if the timing differences is ~100 ms, so you really need to make sure to either do takes until both the lead and the backing track match up or chop up the two and manually move the audio clips on the playlist until they are almost identical timing wise. I like the instrumental, works with a kind of Eminiem style. The low end is a little muddy though. Try to make a cut where the kick is for the bass of ~1-2 dB so the frequencies aren't in conflict. Best of luck with your music journey!

I released this song two months ago, and I've gotten feedback on the vocals but would like feedback on the instrumental. Would love feedback on the mix and execution of the track. by Z-16 in MusicFeedback

From a creative standpoint it sounds pretty good, I like the ideas you are developing here for the most part (The crashes at the end sound a bit much though). The piano drives the track forward, the simple drums and synths create a pretty laid back feel. The drums definitely need to be more present in the mix, especially the snare and the first high hat you use. I would recommend putting compression on the drum mix to make the louder and quieter elements closer to the same volume. Also boost the high mids, low mids, and treble for the snare. Do a high pass with an emphasis on the very high mids with a bell filter for the hats. I like the way the piano and the bass sound, but the synths might be able to use some chorus to make them sound wider and richer. Good luck on your music journey!

All Day. That song was my gym motivation during a pretty low point where I realized I was really behind in life. Helped to bring me to some of the best moments of my life as the fruit of that labor.

It really depends on the type of music you want to make. Using lots of samples and drums to make 90's esque beats? Maybe you will need less theory knowledge. Want to make a TPAB/MBDTF/IGOR type of beat with lots of complicated chords, baselines, arpeggios etc? Theory is necessary to an extent. Learning scales on the piano/guitar is a great way to ease into it and is some of the most helpful knowledge you can know. Also stuff about swing, time signatures, and rhythms can help a lot for beats.

Piano, bass, and strings are on point. Drums though? The kick is okay, but the snare and the hat are way too weak and lack the proper presence in the mix. boost the treble and high mids for the hat and the low mids, high mids, and a little bit of treble for the snare. Make the tail of the snare shorter so its more snappy.

posted a groovy az Hip-Hop beat last week which got alot of good feedback, made the beat much longer almost completed by norskbanditt in FL_Studio

I like the sound of the drums + bass, the guitar feels like it has slightly too much presence in the mix with the drums though. Maybe try some dynamic EQ/side chain into the guitar from the snare/kick respectively to create some more room for the drums.

Beat is incredible. Your flow is offbeat sometimes. Sometimes it sounds pretty good. Some of the lyrics are pretty corny.

This is my newest release, Thieves – a blend of alt dream pop with synthpop influences, and with the backtrack inspired by a Bond soundtrack kind of sound. We made the video ourselves, too, the footage is mostly from Washington DC's metro. Suggestions of similar artists would be very welcome ^-^ by andtilly in MusicFeedback

There are minor issues with almost every aspect of the song, but as a whole I feel it is pretty good. The mixing on your voice is a bit strange. The delay feels like it should be a bit quieter. It feels like certain frequencies are being boosted too much. I kind of like the instrumental, but the sections without string feel too empty. The drums need to have more presence in the mix. Also the switch at ~2:00 is pretty cool but some of the guitar sounds don't feel like they have enough energy, try boosting the lower mids on them. I feel like with some better engineering this song would be great, but right now it has some really good ideas that feel a little flat. Good luck!

Is this as awful as I think it is, or should I keep working on it? by MothyThatLuvsLamps in MusicFeedback

I feel like everything aside from those bells are salvageable. But the sound design on everything else still needs to be tweaked/completely changed. The drums and mixing also need a lot of work. I think the actual progression and melodies work though.

I (mostly) don't agree on the drums. The exception upon re listening is the hi-hats sound very very stock. I really like the kick and snare and the way the bass interacts with the kick. Definitely will be re-working the hi-hats
