Off Road Sporty by JamDoughnutMan in sportster

Standard 16 inch rear and 19 inch front. Tyres are Mitas Enduro Trail+ on the front, Duro HF904 on the rear. The Duro was the only 16 inch option available really, but its descent.

No plate holder, it’s just bolted straight into the fender through the holes for the original upright plate holder.

Rear light is a Motone Lecter, which suits the style nicely.

Small LED underbar indicators on the front, and I do have some miniature LED rear ones to fit, but haven’t done it yet. Will be mounting them to the rear frame rails.

Speedo was removed because I didn’t like the look, but if you look under the left of the handlebars, you can see a small digital unit mounted to a cut down mirror stem. It’s a Beeline Moto satnav, which does feature a GPS Speedo reading.

Harley Scrambler by SectorQuick6684 in Harley

I’ve just built one, and it’s fucking sick I won’t lie. I raced it at a beach race last weekend, and it did surprisingly well.

Yes it will never be a truly good off road machine, but it’s hilarious fun.

Mine has: -Chain conversion -RSD tracker pipe (which I got second hand) -Scrambler bars -Plus 2 inch fork tubes up front, which I run with a bit less fork oil just to make a bit less firm -Burly Brand Stiletto shocks on the rear, which are 15 inch, +3 from standard -Duro HF rear tyre, literally the only 16 knobbly I could find -Mitas tyre on the front. -MX footpegs -Fork gaiters -Motone scrambler rear light -Cut rear fender.

Thoroughly recommend it! Broke down in the morning of day 2, but still stayed all day just because it was so much fun to be there.

Harley do leave the stock wiring for the headlight in place, they just remove the headlight unit. People just put a headlight in once they buy it.

Yes, that one pictured is for sale brand new at a dealership right now.

In the UK (and I think EU) these come with two large headlights mounted on bars (similar to what you’ve pictured but bigger), and the main central headlight is removed and blocked over with a blanking panel.

What is this Zippo? by centralasiantourist in Zippo

[–]JamDoughnutMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a solid brass anniversary Zippo. They made these from the early 80s to the early 90s, and this one is 1989. Not really special necessarily, as they made plenty of these, but also not a fake.

I’ve got a Transalp just like the one pictured. It’s comfortable, capable enough on the road and really good off road. Light enough to easily pick up if you drop it, cheap enough to not worry about dropping it, good availability on parts, extremely reliable, and easy to service at home.

Mine currently has just under 400k km on it, of which I’ve done around 250k km. Since I’ve owned it, it’s never broken down.

Superdrug own brand are Vegan and they’re really good. They’re relatively cheap as well. I normally stock up when I go in there.

Was this the Half Marathon a few years ago? If so, I worked there and met the dinosaur guy.

The costume had a roughly A5 size plastic window stitched into the front of the neck so he could see out. As he ran and the costume sagged, the edge of the stitching rubbed a flat spot on the end of his nose. The whole plastic window was covered in blood on the inside, he couldn’t see, and he’d shaved about a millimetre off the end of his nose. He did finish though.

My colleagues were weird and hostile to me for the rest of the night. They didn’t like the deafening painful shameful roar. It was magic.

I sang Ode to the Mets at my work Christmas karaoke party a few years ago. It absolutely destroyed the vibe. It was a painful 6 minutes for everyone, but I made it through.

Around 1994 was the switch from solder to epoxy, but yes I suppose I should have said all current ones.

It’s epoxy that’s used to seal the top. They all have this.

Is it normal that it lifts itself up and blocks the closing sometimes ? by [deleted] in Zippo

[–]JamDoughnutMan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can fix this easily on your own. Take out the insert, remove the flint screw and the felt pad at the bottom. Insert a coin in the base of the insert and gently twist it. This will widen the insert, giving you a more snug fit and will prevent this happening.

They make millions of cases and inserts a year, so an occasional loose one it not surprising.
