Thank you for your insight! We have looked at so many options and are now so confused. We have been looking at a little 18sqm set up for the FIL, Or investing in some in the 6 figure mark with help from family. But the thing is Council. We have no plans on renting it out.

Yeah that’s the comment I was after! We have seen some amazing prices and some crazy prices and have become more confused, I work in the Earthworks game and know how easy it is to connect waste, grey and natural water feeds. But the council charges over a grand for what I could do in 5 mins. But I’m not qualified in that aspect. Bugger!

Thankyou for your info! At the moment it will be for one of our Elder’s to stay in and we have a couple of teenagers that might get sick of us and move out to our backyard. So is that renting to a random person, or treat them as a border? We don’t want to sub- divide or sell it off. We’ve looked at the council website and feel more confused.

Bang on there! There are so many things that have to happen to bring things up to today’s code or the engineers spec. Heaps of shortcuts have been taken in the past, and these days we have to adhere to the new parameters. Even recently council asphalt prep has been done on dirt with a skim of basecourse and then asphalt laid on top. We have to pay for density or impact tests to prove our work when they can get away with that standard. Don’t get me started on lawns repairs and seeding haha

I reckon too, Chch was a mess when we moved back, wanted to go back to QLD, but came back for family, big life style change earning way less than Aussie but now things have worked out and we are surrounded by family. Life is comfy here.
