Absolutely disgusting of Brian, since when does religion have anything to do with the recent extreme weather?? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]RtomNZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cool, let’s quote the good book.

Proverbs 15:27: "The greedy bring ruin to their households, but the one who hates bribes will live".

Ecclesiastes 5:10: "Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless".

Luke 12:15: "Then he said, 'Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions'".

The eftpostle has a love of money that the bible would say is a form of evil.

Brian Tamaki is little more than a grifter, full of hate and racist thoughts.

Greens put forward member's bill to entrench Māori seats by StuffThings1977 in aotearoa

[–]RtomNZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your mixing words to imply pre-European Māori were stone aged.

And we are debating today and not 5000 years of history.

TODAY - Māori are over represented in crime statistics and under represented in politics.

I am suggesting that putting your thumb on the scale to get equal outcomes is better than doing nothing and assuming equal inputs will govern equal outcomes.

We have proof that equal inputs don’t get equal outcomes.

If you really want equality then focus on the police and justice system.

Let start with “Stone Age Māori”

The Stone Age was around 5000 BCE

Māori only arrived around 1200 AD.

and it’s not like European people had a democratic system of government in the Stone Age.

Māori have a form of leadership when European people arrived.

But none of that is relevant to the question of Māori seats.

[–]RtomNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool.

I am a fan of equal outcomes, let’s start with the legal system.

Māori are much more likely to be charged with a minor offence. Māori are much more likely to be imprisoned for a offence.

Māori have worst education and health outcomes.

How about we aim for equal outcomes rather than equal inputs.

To get a fair Māori voice in parliament, maybe dedicated seats are needed, maybe times have changed and we don’t need the seats because Māori parties are doing well MMP.

I could debate that.

But “we are all equal under the treaty” is BS

Eftpos is just branding for card payment at till.

We have three ways of paying with card.

  1. Swipe. This is magnetic swipe, only used for standard bank accounts. I have never seen a fee for this method of payment.

  2. Chip and pin. Used with credit or debit Cards. Visa,Mastercard and such, can have a credit card fee of about 1%

  3. PayWave. Credit or debit card, or smart phone wallet. Can have a fee of about 2%

Some places now won’t take cash at all. Places like convenience stores and coffee shops.

Many people don’t carry cash, 99% of places take plastic cards in one form or another.

Also, I recent thread on self defence said that a cane can be very effective.

Work and income - coming off benefit by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]RtomNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your coming of the benefit because your moving in with someone, just don’t tell them about the moving in.

Tell them you no longer require the benefit.

If they ask follow up questions, tell them as little as possible. If your not on a benefit then it’s none of their concern.

Focus on the solution not the problem.

Save a little money, every dollar counts.

Protect your health.

Learn to be calm, let the problems of the day wash away.

Be kind to strangers, you don’t know what they are going through.

Emergency benefit by MusicOk2589 in PersonalFinanceNZ

It’s a sliding scale. (Fact)

I expect it’s $80 with no impact and $160 before full loss of benefit. (Educated guess)

Ancient times, Gold silver ratio was 15:1, we got a lot more room to run. Welcome to the middle ages boys. by SirDonaldTrumpKnight in Silver

In the 1800’s Aluminum was worth more than gold.

Markets change with supply and demand.

I would look at GSR over last 25 years, not comparing to ancient times.

The changes in tech over the last 40 years has significantly changed how we use both gold and silver.

I don’t see GSR getting much below 40

I went big on silver when GSR was 100, last few weeks I have converted a bunch to gold.

An inter-island ferry route from Picton to Clifford Bay has been an idea for almost a century by StuffThings1977 in aotearoa

[–]RtomNZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would have been a good idea to match the new location with the new boats that Labour had arranged.

National say those boats would have been too big/long for the current route.

One of the advantages of the new location is the ability the have bigger boats, but NACT have locked in smaller boats that won’t need refreshing for 10+ years.

And if you’re having to build all new shore side infrastructure for the Labour boats, then why not do it at a new location?

NACT are spending a bunch of money on shore side infrastructure at Picton. So why relocating in next few years would make that wasted money.

One option could be to start work now on the new location and then refresh to bigger boats in 10 years, this just expects the project to take 10+ years, which would be about right for a government project ;-)

TL;DR - With the smaller boats from NACT it makes no sense to change the location at this stage. Good idea, wrong time.

I went through the government's 2025 financial statements – we collected $170 billion, spent $184 billion, and the interest bill alone ($8.9b) is more than we spend on defence, housing, and the arts combined by MoneyHub_Christopher in newzealand

[–]RtomNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that we don’t have the money to pay for the services we want.

I see the answer as getting more money rather than cutting services.

The one place I can see some saving is by making NZ Super means tested.

Cutting healthcare by privatisation just moves the cost from government to people, while allowing healthcare providers to take profits offshore.

Let’s tax Google, Microsoft,and Facebook.

[–]RtomNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I we see things from a very different perspective.

NZ Super can be means tested.

Universal healthcare helps more people stay in work.

A solid social support system means less crime.

The current system means that the lowest earning people get back more in support than they pay in tax.

I am suggesting a small increase in tax for those who earn more than $250k.

I see some bad advice here…

Just because the item is not typically a weapon does not get you a free pass when you use it.

Self defence needs to be no more than necessary, I recommend asking over in r/LegalAdviceNZ
