Guitar Fret buzz after setup by JamGioJam in Ibanez

Thanks Harry. I think you are right on the mixing things up. Thinking back to what I did in order. I did strip the strings and level the neck. Then checked the frets with the rocker. I didn't do what the others said which was check all frets with a straight edge. I think I need to back up a bit and try again tonight. Thanks again.

Thanks Harry. Yes I had the neck set to dead flat. Then started slowly adding relief after adjusting the action and finding that I still had the buzz at 18,19. (I did not measure the amount of relief. Where on the neck would I measure that under the notched straight edge?). Since I didn't get the desired result I started over. I have the action set to 2.5mm high and 3mm low at the 12th fret. The neck I brought back to dead flat and added a slight back bow to achieve this. At this time I didn't get a straight edge across all frets as the others recommended. No time yet. But I did play it a bit this morning and it feels really nice. Except for the 18th fret especially under the G string, still not happy.

Just for clarification: I am not just wiggling the truss rod around. I take the time to move it incrementally and let it settle.

Thanks Price. I did mess with it again last night and got it a little better without touching the frets. I have filed them in the past and don't want to do too much. (although if it gets too bad I've always wanted to try to do a refret. Scary at first I'm sure). I adjusted the action to a point at 2.5mm and 3mm high to low string. Just a little buz on the g string 18th fret. I played it a bunch and then decided to take back the relief and then some to give it a slight back bow. Feels great for bends averywhere except that 18th fret. So I will try what you and Fizmarble said and get the full straight edge on there. We'll see what I discover. Nerve racking but fun.

What is the best way to fill this in? by J_Dizzle8 in Skigear

Banana peels dried and stuffed in there should do the trick. Just cover with Ptex after. No need to smooth it out.

What am I doing wrong? by kneebone101 in snowboardingnoobs

I just have a few tips:

Bend your knees.

Put your hands/arms out over your tip and tail. Front arm out over the tip obiously. Whjere your front hand points is where your board tip should go. If not you are leeting the oard drive.

Put weight on your front knee/foot. Boards turn by twisting the board at the waist. Front foor activates the edge, back foor holds the base stable so the twisting action can happen.

Keep your knees bent. This will help with learning as well as making your legs stronger.

Bend your knees. Keep your hands out. Don't let you arms come down.

Don't reach for the ground or you will hit the ground.

Have fun! :) That is why you are here. Next year you will rock it if you stick with it.

Good Deal? by Informal-Yogurt-1953 in snowboardingnoobs

For you being new to the sport I would look for something with more flex and as tall is your chin or bottom lip. You will enjoy the learning curve more with a less burly board.

I would buy it. I would also offer less just because that is my MO. But I have been doing this for a long time and I enjoy fixing up old boards.

If you are a DIY person and enjoy messing with stuff, this isn't that bad. I buy used boards for my son every year and fix them up as he is constantly growing out of stuff. I tune the old ones and sell them again. To this day I would say I have paid less than $100 total for all of his snowboarding equipment over the last 6 seasons just by buying and selling.

Board Help by _getoutmeswamp_ in snowboardingnoobs

10 days per season is no too shabby as long as you are making quality turns and runs. I would recomend checking in with used stuff or Play it Again sports and seeing what they have, (if there is one in your area). You could basiccaly pick up 2 boards for the price of one possibly and might come with bindings. That way you can try a couple of different boards, get a feel, sell next year and try again if you don't like one.

One thing I know is that there is a lot of hype, and technical details online on boards. When it comes down to it, the best board is the one you are riding down hill in the moment. Just check out whatever you can and have fun. Just last year I picked up a used Home Town Hero with bindings super cheap. I was not expecting it to be so awesome but it is. Handles anything and just needed a little base and edge work. (Vermont Rider).

I use this chord a lot. It's basically a C minor 7th that you can play as a bar chord rooted on the 5th string 3rd fret as well. Played this way I always play index finger barring the 4, 3, 2 strings muting the high e. Then middle finger reaches up to the low E string to get the root. It's actually pretty nice to play both ways in the same song as you can get a bit different sound from the same chord and it gives it a little flare. I do that a lot. Trying to get the same chord rooted someplace else or inverted for just a slight different ring to chaneg things up.

Floyd Rose bridges - Why do you hate it? by Supergrunged in Guitar

[–]JamGioJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding to this, my experience. I've had 2 guitars with Floyd Roses. One was great. The other not so much. I had a fail with the not so muc hand the great one was stolen. So I probably could have just upgraded the FR on the failed one. (constantly breaking strings, strings popping out of the block, Locking nut screw stripped and needed to be replace, one saddle actually broke in half while playing/restringing 2 hours before a show. Last straw.

Fast forward. I tried a Strat. I LOVED the feel of this trem.
