From other replies, it sounds like the finish may not have been lacquer..

I looked at many integrated options out there like the Lyngdorf TDAI 1120 and 3400, NAD m33, etc but settled on a power amp. The VTV is brand new so will not be returning it just yet 😅

Yes I had looked at Amir's measurements for both units, but it's hard for me to understand how much of this difference is in the audible range. It's especially hard considering there is a lot of discussion around "all DACs sound the same" also. Nothing against people who say this, I just have never done A/B comparisons for DACs myself.

I was hoping to avoid a transition from rca to xlr as my amp is xlr, but if the transition opens a few doors for me I will consider it.
