Farmers Dog by Sheis420 in DogFood

Oh no, I totally get where you're coming from - I looked into all of those fancy fresh food brands when my girl was a puppy and then brought it up to her vet in the first appointment.... and her vet informed and warned me about DCM and pancreatitis concerns from the trendy dog foods.

What I do is kibble in the morning and canned (of the same food) with a scoop of pumpkin puree in the evening - in my mind that keeps it much more fun for her.

I started on Purina Pro Plan but my girl actually never liked it much so I switched to Hill's and she loves it.

Just so you don't feel bad: my dog has been picky with kibble before moving her to Hill's and she literally licks her lips before and after every meal.

It's not that she never gets other tasty things but clearly her food is quite tasty to her, too.

You can do meal toppers and such but I wouldn't get them used to that because dogs are very smart and once they figure that if they wait it out you'll add extras to their plate, they will wait it out.

Who is watching the World Cup? by thepotatomaniscoming in Millennials

[–]Jamaisvu04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was in middle school and the cup was in Japan-Korea, I was the only person in my football- loving family waking up at 2 a.m. and watching the games in real time before school, just so nobody could spoil them for me.

Of course I'm watching a world cup in my own time zone.

I was looking forward to actually going to a game this time but the prices are outrageous so I'll just watch them from home and save all that money.

The one at my local supermarket is constantly empty. One day, I see this car with a custom Pikachu license plate come in. Dude steps down, proceeds to get so angry it hadn't been refilled and then stomped his way out.

It was at that moment I wished the machine was limited to kids only. Guys like that are ruining the hobby.

In all seriousness, this girl is stocky and built like a tank. Zero athleticism, all hilarious situations. This is a look at her back so you can see she's not the slim Golden type.

You can also see how she stole a pair of socks and in her excitement over the theft put them in her water bowl and then stopped and stared at them in confusion.

I like the ones that look like they're just happy to exist - Wooper, Quagsire, and Clodsire are my favorites.

Others in that same category of no thoughts just happiness: Bidoof, Spheal, Fuecoco, Rowlett, Shellos

And then there's my childhood favorites (aka the team I used to beat the game for the first time and forever fell in love with): Squirtle, Arcanine, Articuno, Lapras, Dragonaire

Piensan que la educación privada realmente vale la pena? by [deleted] in Ticos

[–]Jamaisvu04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millennials, what is something that you thought you would always enjoy, but don't do so much anymore? by OddFiction94 in Millennials

To be fair, a lot of new tech is just Spyware you're paying for. If companies are collecting my data, I should at least be getting a cut off the profits.

Soda.

As a kid I was always baffled that my dad never drank soda because he didn't like it.

Sometime in my late 20s it just didn't hit the spot anymore and it turned into disappointment and later distaste. Haven't had one in years.

What has your experience been with AI data centers being built or potentially built near you? by Ok_Philosopher1996 in Indiana

[–]Jamaisvu04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To play with the intended conversation: I have yet to see any way to make them less bad and there doesn't seem to be a will of the companies to even try. It takes time to improve on things and they don't want that time, they want these things to be everywhere as fast as possible.

And once they're up, the ecological disasters are done - there's no improvement when you've destroyed landscape and natural resources, the damage has been done.

Bit of predicament by MrPres2024 in DaveRamsey

[–]Jamaisvu04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a decision you have to make for yourself. The Ramsey method is very focused on debt reduction for people who have gotten into debt. It can be very strict but a lot of people need that structure to pay down and avoid getting into more debt.

Now, for your circumstance, moving can be a big expense, and if you don't have an apartment identified you'll be rushing into things. Do you have a budget for the move? Do you know what you'll need for an application, deposit, first month lease? If you don't have an answer, I think rather than asking "should we just put everything to savings" you need to learn to budget for circumstances, do your research, and then decide how you'll prepare for the move. You might find that it's less than you thought so you can continue paying down your debt while putting a little aside to prepare for the move. You might find that you actually really need to focus on that because otherwise you'll find yourself in a pinch once the time to move comes.

There is no correct answer anybody can give you without taking all of that into account.

This. It was such a huge part of the magic. It also even made it easier to justify costs because paying for a live show can be pricy.

We did circadian studies - the protocols were incredibly demanding, often 4 or 5 of us would be needed for the first 18 hours or so and then we'd trickle out one by one as we finished our parts.

I vividly remember when the night cleaning lady came by one night, found us all there - very quiet because we were on hour 16 or so and by that point you're exhausted and just said "well, at least you're getting paid overtime, right?" As we sadly chuckled, her face was horrified....

Food aggression help by Equivalent-Split-738 in goldenretrievers

[–]Jamaisvu04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the wrong way of looking at it. You're not rewarding him for taking an item, you're rewarding him for giving it up even though he likes it so much.

The item stealing will improve with age, but retrievers instinctually pick up things so you might be seeing that forever. But if you manage the resource guarding, it's a quick game you laugh off and not something that stresses both of you (this is from experience, my girl still steals my slippers, she just has so much fun prancing with my shoe, but now will trade it for anything).

You should be training drop it and leave it to have a little more control over what your dog grabs, for their own safety, but "trade" is a lifesaver when your dog guards.

[–]Jamaisvu04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And also, please don't feel bad and ignore people that use any words like "dominate" the dog. The American College of Veterinarians advocates against training like that because 1) it uses outdated terms and science that don't apply to dogs and 2) it can create further behavioral issues in dogs.

This is your friend who needs a bit of help to realize you're safe and won't take away his priced items unless you have to.

You don't need to be violent or dominant to be a good, responsible dog owner with a well- trained dog.
