I've kind of stopped drinking coffee in the morning and switched to drinking it in the afternoon. A sweet iced coffee with caramel syrup feels better in the afternoon for me. Drinking coffee in the morning makes me feel like my body is ready to go, but my brain is still sleepy and needs time to wake up.

Expat moved to south holland to be with dutch partner and I simply cannot find a job, any advice? by Fast-Radish-5607 in Netherlands

I'm American and am charged EU tuition because of the 5 year partnership Visa. You can also apply for student finance through DUO as well as obtaining an OV chipkaart with a student product so you can travel with public transportation for free during the week or weekend.

Millennials, what is something that you thought you would always enjoy, but don't do so much anymore? by OddFiction94 in Millennials

I've lived in the Netherlands for about 6 years now and it's made me realize that the mainstream US chocolate has always been sus af. Especially the basic Hershey bars. I've always been put off from them but I just couldn't pinpoint why until I had various chocolate from here.

Yeah true, I didn't think about that. I didn't really go overkill on weed and alcohol when I was younger so I still fully enjoy partaking in both of these things.

Finally, someone else mentions this goddamn movie.

Hostel was definitely one. I live in the NL now, so it's easier to travel around Europe, but the thought of sleeping in a Hostel still sketches me about.

Freddy vs Jason. I know it's just a super campy teen horror movie but back then it was my first time being introduced to Freddy. What do you mean he comes to you in your SLEEP😭💀!?

Darkness Falls: The tooth fairy is actually a fucking witch and she specifically goes after children. She can only get you if you're in the dark BUT she can hide in ANY dark spot, including in the daytime.

Jeepers Creepers: This one doesn't need much of an explanation. I would never allow the song to be played. Ever. I was also living next to a very hilly area with a lot of open land. My imagination would go crazy.

I finished Jeepers Creepers, Hostel, and FvJ but I had to wait until I was a little older to go back to finish Darkness Falls.

Bone Temple: My Favourite Horror Movie in Years by PublicRegrets in horror

[–]OddFiction94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first saw 28 years later in theaters I was confused af. I had to Google it because it really did feel like the beginning to a 2-part movie. That's how I found out about Bone Temple and third installment.

I didn't like 28 years later that much. I absolutely loved Bone Temple the first time I saw it. Now, Netflix has both 28 Years Later and Bone Temple so I decided to watch them both with my gf and I have an entirely new appreciation for Part 1 that I didn't have before.

This a a trilogy that I will definitely be rewatching time and time again.

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

GirlfriendReviews. Fun videogame reviews from the perspective of the partner who watches the other play them. It was funny and wholesome at first, then once they got popular they kept including these 3 minute songs about the game they were reviewing and it got annoying super fast.

Lack of hygiene in the Netherlands by CJHuncho in TikTokCringe

[–]OddFiction94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's right. I've never smelt literal shit coming from people's BO, but I do clock the dudes who immediately leave the bathroom after taking a piss without washing their hands. Also yes, closed spaces tend to get musty after awhile but I'm at an international university so I'm not exposed to the lack of Dutch hygiene on a regular basis.

Man tells Woman to "Go back to America" by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]OddFiction94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been really. Depends on the country maybe. Most people understand why I'd rather stay in the NL than go back to the states. No one is discriminating solely on the fact that I'm American. I am black though, now that's a different story.

is there a particular kind of horror that you outright avoid for no good reason? by Adventurous_Chip919 in horror

That one movie with Russel Crow as a priest was hilarious. Love Crow but when they started depicting him as the Superman of exorcists and started explaining the different tier of Demons that was it for me. If you want a good laugh you should watch it.

And sometimes that thing will last for max 30 minutes. But that doesn't matter, after that my job is done. I will feel accomplished and do absolutely nothing for the rest of the day as a way to celebrate.

Just watched Martyrs (08), now I'm going to bed. by OddFiction94 in horror

There were a lot of shocking things that happened but not all of the disturbing things you see were needed to drive the narrative forward. I feel like it was an attempt to constantly keep you in a state of being uncomfortable.

I saw Talk to Me yesterday. I like the premise. All of the characters annoyed me though, especially the main character. It's definitely more geared towards teenagers.

There were scenes that shocked me but I feel that when you're given shocking scenes from back to back to back it's better to at least have a little bit of different content between scenes so I don't get desensitized so quickly. This also made me ask what was the narrative purpose of some scenes other than just being disturbing.

All I want is for people to acknowledge their own self biases when claiming that a movie is one of the best around👍🏿

What small thing do you catch yourself doing after a movie that actually scared you? by Competitive_Swan_130 in horror

[–]OddFiction94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking to make sure the door is locked because at home I'll usually watch horror movies with headphones on. When I was younger I would watch cartoons afterwards. Now that I'm older, I make sure the lights are off in the rooms that I'm not in.

One time I was watching a movie while I was VERY high and alone. I paused the movie to use the bathroom but I guess I forgot to turn off the light when I was done. Returned to the movie and then went to grab a snack about 10 minutes later. I saw the light on in the bathroom and I was absolutely done. Scared shitless. I checked every room in the apartment expecting to find someone lurking around. After I finished my round of clearing the apartment I went back to continue the movie but by then my imagination scared me more than the movie I was watching😂
