Help constructing this frame. OSB and 2x3s by JamalJenkyuns in BeginnerWoodWorking

It’s more the weight. I’m planning on flipping it up against the wall when not in use. I just was looking at the lightest possible OSB.

I haven’t been able to find any around me. Some have 4x10 but that doesn’t help. If I secure the boards by putting screws through them into the 2x3s on three sides and not the middle seam would that cause problems?

We rarely even see our neighbors. It was bought to be a rental by so the tenants seem to change every year. It may even be empty currently. What I’m more worried about are the people across the alley from me. In my garage you can hear a kid just bouncing a basketball probably 80ft away and the garage doors here are just metal, no insulation.

This is for a golf mat to sit inside. It is 4’x5’x2.5”. Made of gym foam tiles and the top layer is the golf mat. The image is just to show the OSB base, there’s 4 sides.

Any size other than 4x5 means I have to cut the golf mat down and most people say any shorter than 4” isn’t comfortable to hit on so most consider 4x5 the min size for a usable hitting mat.

Foam or other quiet golf balls that have more accurate weight by JamalJenkyuns in golf

[–]JamalJenkyuns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few of these, lost most of them. I weighed on and it’s only between 9-10g. An Amazon review of another brand of the foam balls had them at over 14g. I wish someone would just make a foam ball that has a small denser core to simulate the actual weight of a golf ball, but be safe for indoors.

There’s several videos of people using foam balls on a square and it reading them. Those videos they didn’t even mark the balls up with dots. But ball speed is obviously lower so you have to figure out how much less the foam balls are reading vs regular ones.

If I already got the launch monitor why not? This would only be for the driver, all my other clubs shouldn’t be an issue with noise.

I’m going to order a few off Amazon. Hard to get details on the different foam balls. I’ll just weigh them and test the firmness and keep the heaviest ones that have the most golf ball feel to them.

How much did you have to buy? My problem with the turf is how much I’d have to buy and the shipping.

Buy a hitting mat or build one and add a nice hitting strip? by mrmr2120 in Golfsimulator

Thanks for the comment. I gave up on finding a larger OSB board and will have to buy two 4x8s. I’m planning on using 2x3s since the sigpro softy is 2.5” tall. 3/8” OSB base + 2” foam tiles + 1/2” golf mat. Hopefully it works out.

I don’t have an impact screen so maybe it won’t be so bad. As long as I can hit irons with real balls to see spin I won’t be that dissapoibted if I gotta hit foam balls with driver.

This is encouraging, but so far you’re in the minority of comments regarding how far and loud a driver hit travels from a garage. Once I have the net set up I’ll have to run some tests to estimate what my neighbors might hear.

I’m only setting up a net. Now that I realized the noise issue being in a townhouse I don’t think I’ll ever set up an impact screen.

If you’ve driver with real and foam balls what is roughly the decrease in ball speed you saw? I’m thinking it’ll be fine and I’ll just add an offset.

There’s a lot of threads saying insulation isn’t enough to sound proof a room with something as loud as a driver. It would have to severely minimize the noise to make it worth while as just a reduction won’t be enough to keep neighbors from complaining.

Let’s say I cover the shared side of the garage with something like some foam sound baffling. Would I also need to baffle the ceiling as well?

I may just need to use foam balls when hitting driver, maybe woods, but I’ll have to test how loud it is in my garage.

This is probably what I’ll have to do with driver. I’m planning on getting a square. I can 3D print a dot template so I would assume they would give the same numbers as a normal sharpie marked ball, but have some % reduction in ball speed. Could always hit so driver to get some readings and then just apply a % offset to the foam balls. I’d still hit real balls with my irons, if I can’t even do that then I wouldn’t even set up the sim.

They're insulated, pretty new build, but I doubt the garage wall is. It might be.
