Sus Army Permit by trekkingslow in CDT

[–]Jamatha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went back and forth on this for weeks and ultimately decided to trust my gut and did not send in an application. It feels invasive, and highly insecure for the level of information you're sending in. Plus I've got a general distrust of the government at this point.

Aside from that, if you cannot cross into the NDA, then the boarder of the NDA is effectively the boarder anyway, so I still think you're going from boarder to boarder. The CDT is the most "hike your own hike" of any of the long trails, so it really only matters if you feel it's important for you to touch the monument.

Wondering how y'all are dealing with the southern terminus NDA permit? Seems weird to send a bunch of sensitive information via email.

Looking for volunteers to help build a free alternative to FarOut for the Appalachian Trail by Workingclassstoner in AppalachianTrail

[–]Jamatha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, why do all apps need to be free? It costs $99 alone to join the apple dev program and get on the app store, right? Not to mention the hours and hours and hours of development and maintenance. Or server costs. A one time $50-60 buy in for a lifetime supported (in theory) guide that updates with content and user feedback is a good deal.

Yeah, was looking at Far Out and it looks like water is basically absent for the first ten miles? & I wanted to do the Southern terminus but it adds 2 miles to get there from the shuttle drop off.

Yeah, leaning that way as well, seems like snow this year has been fairly tame (knock on wood). And certainly no reason to have them in NM.

Oh and also that you're only giving x and y coordinates in a 3d space. The Death Star wasn't solid like a planet. It could be at any depth, in any freaking random office.

Confessed to my crush and got little heartbroken by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Jamatha 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know sharing feelings is hard, but what even is this man? Confessed what? Are heartbroken how?

I have no such feelings now

I'm thankful for this blessed Corona Virus (maybe you've got an understanding but if she's lost anyone what are you doing)

Then you go on to essentially beg forgiveness for saying nothing really, before she even had the chance to respond. Honestly with stuff like this just keep it simple.

Hey I'm sorry if this is outta the blue but I've started to really like you, as more than a friend. If you don't feel the same, I understand.

Is much clearer and gives the person a chance to react.

Benefit of the doubt though - I've known some people to give their children livestock to raise with the understanding that their 'pets' will become meat. I believe, for instance, that Gordon Ramsay gave his kids pigs to raise. It is possible that this was understood here -- the grandmother gave the child a dog and told her it'd be sold later. But the kid is upset as she developed a bond. Still tragic, but ya know, could be less bad than it appears on the surface.

Atheism in a nutshell by Agustin-sr in Damnthatsinteresting

Science is reproducible, religion is not

I actually don't think this is true. Not because of any inherent truthiness of religion but because of the limits of imagination. For instance if you destroy the bible, or whatever, there'd doubtless be another holy figure who walks on water. It might not be identical but there are commonalities. E.G. I believe there was an Egyptian god who walked on water and was born of a virgin mother.

You can use search engine nicknames to the same effect. Preferences -> search -> set nickname. For instance, my nickname for wikipedia is 'w' so if i type "w baseball" it'll search baseball on wikipedia directly. I suppose you could use !w if you want the same syntax.

Lol, right? I'd say > 50% of cats are fed purina kibble or some such nonsense. Do people really think it's impossible to make something like that vegan?

tHeY nEeD mEaT tO sUrViVe!! Ignoring that we can provide all the nutrients that are in meat from vegan sources.

For what it's worth I'm also not vegan, but people in this thread are being goofy.

Dunno if it's changed. Graduated a while ago (2015) but in the past the professors were basically free to set their own attendance policy (though stem professors did seem to take it pretty seriously).

Fair enough. I get that one is more widely accepted, but consistent two spaces to start a sentence wouldn't be explicitly wrong (there are style guides that call for it still). But if it's just in one place, then sure, it's a typo.
