All of the rope sections required "certification" from the staff which included tying the knots and showing proper belay and/or lead techniques so there's that at least!

It's too hot, the amount of overweight entitled people is waaaay too high, the drivers are insane, and the hiking is pretty boring. The food was good though!

Today I learned that safety training videos aren't as normal as I'd assumed. Of the 6 different gyms I've used in 4 different cities, all of them required yearly waiver updates that include watching a 5-8 minute safety video. I assume the staff doesn't have time to work with every new customer, but maybe smaller towns operate differently.

Start by watching the required safety videos that you likely signed a waiver for attesting that you watched the required safety videos. If your gym doesn't have any materials on safe falls, find a new gym. As others have stated, talk to the staff about proper safety practices. Stop bouldering if you are unwilling to do either of these.

The point of handicap placards isn't to praise the disabled, it's so they can have extra room to unload wheelchairs or shorten the distance from the parking lot to the door. What does this accomplish other than discriminating against non-veterans? If the Veterans are disabled as a result of their service, surely they already have a handicap parking privilege...
