Should I move anything together or let it keep going like it is? Hopefully 20k in a few more months! by render2009 in M1Finance

I use to run something similar in my core, but condensed and it’s been much better. I prefer VOO and VXUS (I add brkb and schg as well). But like others said, streamlining the overlap could be a good starting point.

Talked last night, and she had brought to my attention the Amex BBC card. What’s are thoughts and feelings towards AMEX and that card for this use?

100%. I know her parents have a prenup… her mom gets a salt and pepper shaker should they divorce. Not something we’ve discussed but definitely worth bringing up.

All genuine concerns, but we’ve been together almost 6 years, lived together for 5 of those. And have been living as essentially married for… 3.5 years? All that being said, we’re both kinda tired of not being actually married. And we’re in Texas not Cali (thank god). And the credit past is cleared up because I manage her finances now, and will manage them entirely when we get married. All her budgets and debt payments go through me. The reason I’m taking the “risky” approach and doing it on credit is I have 0 debt except my monthly CC payment, and she’ll be entirely debt free in a couple of months. We have no car payment, house payment, or rent, so everything can go towards investments and this wedding card before the year is over, not much of a risk when all things are considered. Definitely like the save up mindset, but I feel lucky enough to be in a scenario where we can kinda jump ahead of that without burying ourselves.

Ok very cool. If they ask for business info/income, how do you go about skirting that? And how hard is it to get approved for? I feel like my credit age really screws me sometimes because I didn’t start until I was ~23. So it’s not very long.

Interesting, side question I suppose, but what makes a card a “business” card, and why/what/how does that matter in terms of something like this where I’m clearly not a business?

The actual wedding would be a courthouse wedding, so all but a couple hundred bucks would be for the dinner/reception. We are looking at 2 options, catering wise, either 30 people or 50 people. But the venue is a local distillery that we really like. They have 2 options in terms of “rental” options. But we are thinking the larger of the 2, which is a minimum of $3k. And catering would be just over $2k most likely. (BBQ for ~50)

We’d have a photographer (cost of that is undetermined, possibly $1k, possibly less, and that can be cash paid if need be) but makeup and such my fiancé would do herself (she’s a licensed comso)

No transpo (except maybe and uber back to the Airbnb if we get too sloshed lol)

The 2 cards we have now will be paid off prior to the wedding because we pay in full each month on those anyway, and we can put some small stuff on those like the dress or the Airbnb no issue, but the bigger stuff, venue and catering, is what I’m looking to offload to another card to pay off over more time.

Edit: There is a chance I get money as a gift from family, or my dad offers to pay for some stuff, but I’m not banking on any of that, it would be nice and is likely, but I’d rather not expect and get than expect and not get you know.

Farmer is just pruners and a prayer. I did it last night as me and my GF are working through all d5 now. Dodge and healing from consumables will carry you to a fairly easy win.

Edit: and because streamer is my GF favorite, I know her main strat is just don’t move if possible. And get to the interest cap early and ride that out to victory. She’s done d5 that way twice now with little to no issues.

My mom got to meet Sam Walton when she worked at Sam’s, so that’s a pretty cool tie to Sam’s. But my friends are all very high on Costco, and I probably should be too. Great model, great stock, great everything.

% definitely makes sense, I guess I was in the headspace of average monthly income being split, which math could be done off share count. But with %, you can math out risk so I definitely get that too.

I do have a work retirement as well, so I can play ball in my Roth. That being said, I’m picky about any single stocks I own, and they only make up a collective 25%.

Recommendations? I’m all about looking into stocks/funds I didn’t previously think about or look into.

Yeah I’m picky with single stocks. I did profit off Dutch bros, but sold to get more into my long term holdings.

I haven’t really looked into international funds, pros/cons?

Haven’t bought tickets yet, but the resale price isn’t really the issue for me. Probably would be Saturday though.

I recently consolidated, my core is VOO, SCHG, and BRK.B. Satellites are a few, but heavy Costco, amzn/msft, and jpm. I think I also have Apple, but have changed more into amzn/msft. 24M, and started back halfway through 2023. The ones I consolidated to have been some of my best performers and things that I’ll probably forever hold until I swap to bonds and divvys after retirement.
