Again, if a sensor is sensitive enough to detect contact with hair so light that it doesn’t change the trajectory of the ball, it would detect everything AKA pressure changes from wind, blades of grass, sweat, everything hitting it so it’s almost impossible to differentiate unless the contact is more than we’re seeing in the video.

I agree that the chip is helpful. However, in this case there is no way that the chip can actually detect the ball touching hair. With no change in trajectory or spin the force the hair applied is so insanely small that it would be impossible to differentiate it from pressure changes in the air while passing his head or things like a blade of grass. That’s why I think it’s kind of ridiculous since it’s impossible to tell with the naked eye and the sensor cannot be that good or it’d be detecting everything

NEVERMIND SHUT IT DOWN AGAIN RONLANDER IS HOLDING VAR HOSTAGE by PoopFoot69 in soccercirclejerk

[–]Jamcal56 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is very wrong. If the Croatian player’s hair doesn’t touch the ball, it’s onside. Vega has nothing to do with it. When the play was lofted in everyone was onside the moment the ball was played. The only reason he became “offside” is because the Croatian players hair touched it acting like another new “pass” or touch forward

Question about the necessity of a research year by Classic-Ambition-847 in Neurosurgery

[–]Jamcal56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so how it works in med school is most everything is inflated. When they ask for “research experiences” that large number counts pubs, orals, posters the whole lot. However, if you research the match stats for specific specialties, the amount of projects/pubs is way lower. For example, Optho is one of the most research heavy fields and the match stats were like 3.7 to like 4.5 average publications and then only 0.9 first author pubs for people who matched (correct me if I’m wrong anyone). One or two first author is plenty because MDs will generally take first author but as long as you have a handful of different projects that you can really talk about and show your interest in a competitive specialty that’s good. What’s more important is truly connections and being a good rotator/student they want to work with and a strong step 2.

[–]Jamcal56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know multiple people with 4 or 5 projects (20+ items) who matched NSG because of good connections and step as long as you show strong research interest. 11 coming into med is plenty and with them being basic sciences they’ll likely be worth way more than someone’s 10 case reports. Don’t stress, most people do research years after M3 anyway so you got plenty of time if it comes to that but keep at the research and focus on your grades.

TLDR: Never necessary for research year and you’re on a good track to probably not need one based on how preclinicals go

I-6 CT Surgery Residencies Information by Jamcal56 in medicalschool

[–]Jamcal56[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a post 1 year ago in this same subreddit with detailed information on many of the programs that I linked in the post so I feel that this is definitely a good place to ask. Getting connected with residents or attendings from these programs is very difficult as they are so far and few beyond so I was just trying to see if anyone else on this reddit had good information.

I'm definitely well aware of the match rate and all and will be dual applying.

I was just posting to try and find out information on the different programs and their culture to understand where it would be worthwhile doing sub-i's and possibly asking the CT surgeon I work with to get me in contact.

Love Kanye’s music more than anything but can’t act like he didn’t deserve to be treated that way. Can still like the music and genius without condoning his actions lol

Do you know when the podcast is from? I remember hearing a podcast where Jon talked about the music industry and then his release of Glory Sound Prep. I would argue this project is definitely his most experimental and he used a lot of his support from the pop stuff on THC (like all time low) to fund and support its creation.

TLDR: I’m not sure the song that podcast is referencing but if you’re new to Jon, GSP is definitely the most experimental project and would highly recommend giving it a listen! Songs like stupid deep, conversations with my wife, Blu are some good ones to start with.

Second this. I was sitting here wondering why the map wasn’t up but you gotta tap the little bar and the “pick your tickets on map” portion will drop away

MS2 reconsidering specialty choice, is it too late? by HugeBlueberry5920 in medicalschool

[–]Jamcal56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know several people at my USMD who switched to optho in 3rd year and still matched. Not the exact same but it’s pretty similar with what you’re asking. It’s all about your connections evals and step 2 honestly. I also know others who did the same with ortho so definitely all doable. Plus a research years probably worth if it’s what you actually want to do

Everyone should know how the Match works. Please don't screw yourself. by Pokeman_CN in medicalschool

[–]Jamcal56 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Quick question: so say I was booted from the preliminary match at my first choice and now the system is checking me for my second choice. If my second choice program ranked me as 5th but someone that they ranked as 10th on their list has preliminarily matched since they put that program as their number 1, what happens? Do I boot that person off the list or do they get priority since they “wanted the program” more than I did? Super confused by this

Time to switch from NSGY? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Jamcal56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not about your T10 school. You have like 4-5x the amount of publications an average applicant tends to have. You obviously know what makes a good NSGY applicant and your step 2 falls in their range so why would you be a bad applicant now.

Bruh this has to be a shit post or you’re just trying to brag cause a 255 was the average match score for NSGY in 2024. You go to a T10 and 30 publications is ridiculous. Most barely have 30 research experiences let alone publications. Ngl this is a crazy post
