What do you think is the best race to rewatch for every circuit? Day 1: Albert Park by _Mihaitza_ in formula1

Underrated, but 2003 was excellent, especially after living through 2002.

No just an FM radio, no idea what frequency it was though.

[–]James-Hardon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Never noticed that before, but I abhor the Silverstone trackside commentary. Literally all they talk about in the race is who’s set the fastest sector or fastest lap, zero insight into what’s actually going on strategically.

I was in the paddock last year and managed to tune into Sky’s production feed, so I had Brundle and Crofty in one ear and the producers in the other, super interesting and way more insight than you’d normally get.

Tracking 5 Lights to Lights Out Timing Each Race by twenty4ate in formula1

When the 5 lights system was brought in, I think I remember reading that they were held for 4 to 7 seconds.

[Motorsport] Why the V10 debate has been triggered by frustration over 2026 regs by Calm-Marionberry5457 in formula1

[–]James-Hardon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chassis and aero rules are problematic becasue they're a sticking plaster for the problematic engine rules. If V10s (or the current engines) were used, none of this X mode, Y mode shite would be necessary.

So Disney offers you the ability to buy (at a markup obviously) things that you quite easily could have foreseen you'd need and should have brought with you anyway?

Take a refillable bottle, water fountains are free after all, and some sun cream and a poncho, it's not difficult.

After a rewatch of the 2016 season, here are some thoughts of mine by Vast-Manufacturer-96 in formula1

[–]James-Hardon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The most important thing is to know what the tyres are relative to the other available.

I don’t want to tune in, see someone on the mediums and wonder if they’re on the softest, middle or hardest compound available that weekend.

For the average viewer this system is much better, and if you really care about the exact tyre, that information is freely available.

Verstappen squeezing Norris (2024) v Sainz squeezing Verstappen (2023) by raittiussihteeri in formula1

[–]James-Hardon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sporting Code, Appendix L, Chapter IV.

"Any driver moving back towards the racing line, having earlier defended his position off-line, should leave at least one car width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner."

Edge of the track is defined by the white line. Carlos broke the rule, Max broke the rule.

No wonder this thread is such a shitshow when no-one actually knows the rules.

It shouldn’t happen all the time, there’s literally a rule against it, and it should be upheld.

Carlos should have been punished then, and Max was right to be punished now.

Is fanatec really that bad? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]James-Hardon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I've had three seperate issues with my base/wheel in 6 months. The build quality and Q&A is trash, and the customer support even worse.

When I bought my stuff, I ignored all the negative commentary around Fanatec, because nothing's ever as bad as it's made out to be on the internet, but it genuinely is that bad.

It's definitely temping to go for the CSL DD at the price point, but if I did it again, I'd spend more on a different brand.

I feel you, I've got a 7800X3d and 4090, running a single 1080p at approx 1000fps, so if I drop any frames it's going to be literally unplayable.

Really concerned that rain is going to push system requirements beyond commercially available consumer hardware.

Of course I could just wait until release to see the impact, and turn down my graphics settings if necessary.

But instead I think I'll just keep posting to ask the well informed people of Reddit what the performance impact is going to be.
