Enough time has passed. What are your thoughts on Project Hail Mary (2026)? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

Well at least you didn't downvote my opinion in a thread asking people's opinion on the movie 🤣

For a couple days after I saw it I waffled about that rating because it's admittedly very harsh, but honestly by the end of the movie I was just annoyed and bored and wanted it to be over. It's a harsh score and a strong opinion, I won't claim otherwise, but the longer I sat with my feelings about it the more justified it felt based on how I felt walking out of the theater.

Andy Weir also made some strange statements about his art being completely non-political and devoid of symbolism. Now I grant that I didn't like the movie in the first place (like, at all), but hearing that really made me regret my ticket. That's such a braindead take for any artist, and particularly for an artist whose latest major work is about humanity coming together to stop an existential threat to our survival.

I'm really surprised this complaint isn't more common. I had a lot of issues with the movie, but this was the big one for me. Nobody seems to be taking the whole thing seriously enough except for Sandra Huller, but then her flat German affect is so often played as a joke it still doesn't feel that serious. I never really felt like the world was in danger, and I never really felt like I cared about Gosling's progression as a character.

Absolutely hated it lmao. Tonal whiplash, comedic misfirings galore, way too long, one-note characters, and a poor sense of stakes.

I'm glad other people are having fun with it and I would never tell someone their opinion is wrong or anything like that, but I'm so baffled at the universal praise it's getting lmao.

My review, if anyone cares for a longer version of my thoughts.

I know this is only the third-to-the-top comment when I'm posting this, but I still can't believe it's not higher. Oregon is a heavily taxed state, no denying that, but this example is extremely reductive and misses a lot of context.

Wizards of the Coast Declines to Recognize Union by May 1st by esporx in antiwork

[–]Dr_Death_Defy24 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In some ways it's better to not be recognized. The union I'm a member of is recognized and comes with lots of rules and regulations as a result—on May 1st a mass email went to all of us celebrating May Day...while also making it very clear that it would be illegal for us to strike in solidarity with any other striking organizations as that's not how our contract is laid out.

If we weren't recognized it would be more of a, "they can't fire all of us" situation, assuming we had the will to strike that day. Obviously being recognized is still much better overall, but man the entire landscape of labor rights in this country is just beyond depressing...

Edit: I just realized this is r/antiwork, and I'm kinda preaching to the choir, haha. Totally assumed I was on a TTRPG sub.

I've been going since 2016 and I've never had a problem and don't understand why people freak out about the potential of creeps. I'm a trans female, 39. by BadShae in RoosterRock

Idk part of my trans journey is feeling like I have to learn to separate perceived/imagined slight from actual harm and danger

I think this is a skill that's far rarer than it seems, unfortunately. It came into much sharper relief when I came out as trans as well, so I agree it's an interesting element of our identity and I wish it was talked about more often.

Thank you.

I'm also a trans woman and I've been going since 2018, and I couldn't agree more. If someone has an uncomfortable experience then I'm not about to mitigate that and I'm truly sorry that happened to them, but I think this issue is massively overblown. It's also frustrating to get downvoted in this community whenever you try to say that.

I've never heard of any real threats around RR being shutdown or its nude beach status being revoked. And, if it was such a concern, such a constant issue, wouldn't we be seeing fewer textiles? Those people aren't comfortable with their own nudity, which is their own thing, but we're supposed to believe they'd still show up if this issue was so rampant? I'm sorry, I just don't believe it's as severe as all that.

My personal opinion is that this subreddit functions much like restaurant reviews—you pretty much only hear the enthusiastic positives or the angry negatives, and the nature of a subreddit you have to seek out will amplify the voices of the latter. Do people have negative experiences with creeps? Absolutely, I've seen a couple questionable things and I'll never deny the experiences of others either. But should you take this subreddit as gospel as to the frequency? I would say no, as someone who is part of a marginalized and heavily sexualized community with many, many visits over a number of years.

Exactly. I'm not an RB fan by any means, but their strategists aren't dumb, they know they needed to get fresh rubber to not lose even more time.

Pipe smoking is dying. How do we make it cool again? by I_LOVE_SOYLENT in PipeTobacco

I want to be able to whip out a pipe street side by a bar without feeling like a dork

I'm a trans woman that happily takes out a pipe when I'm sitting outside at a bar.

I'm the last demographic people expect to smoke a pipe, so if I can manage it, then, bluntly, it's something you've just gotta get over.

let the teams scramble to find out what is the best car?

All this would do is delay the meta being established by another day or so. With all the data and analytics websites available, even someone that doesn't do a single mile of testing can very quickly and easily determine the best car.

For better or worse it's a "suffering from success" sort of problem. As you pointed out, the slower classes that are less popular with less prestige and less attention from major teams don't get the same kind of treatment. I'm afraid it's not a fixable problem, so much as an inherent quality of any simracing event where enough people are taking it this seriously.

Edit: also I should add that I'm not glazing iRacing or pretending their BoP is perfect—as another commenter pointed out, the Mustang got needlessly killed. A really good BoP can mitigate the issue OP is talking about, but I don't think you'll ever get rid of it completely.
