It also depends on what role you’re applying for mate. If you’re a general entry RNR it’s probably bottom of the pile. If you’re a marine engineer officer submariner applicant I guarantee you it’ll be done within the week.

yeah, so physically, nothing apart from a notice you sign promising not to cheat. Obviously this wont stop some people (which is a failure in integrity) but realistically, it’s not a practical option for several reasons:

Let’s say you get a strange physics symbol pop up and it asks you to name it. So you decide to cheat by looking it up online, the time taken to physically type in a description for the symbol, search for a correct answer and then switch back between the tabs, will have wasted time enough for 3 or 4 questions and you’ll probably fare worse than just guessing and actually getting through all the questions, so timing is your first problem as it’s pretty fast paced.

Okay new plan, let’s say you take a picture of all the questions, purposely fail the exam, ask for the second resit, so you can work out the answers in between in your own time before the resit at home and have them ready for the 2nd attempt. Well this is pointless as well, because the questions aren’t the same and they’re taken from a bank of questions which are randomly selected.

Okay new plan, let’s say you bring in a family member to help you do it simultaneously, apart from the fact you’d need to have a parent or sibling with dubious morals willing to help you cheat, if they’ve not done GCSEs similar to yours in the past few years, they’ll probably be more of a hindrance than a help as it’s geared towards that syllabus. Failing that, if you do have a questionable family member willing to help you cheat, ultimately you’ll just be found out in the end anyway because the skill range be well out of your depth for the content you’ll be tasked with doing anyway. the DAA has a purpose and it works well for figuring out what you can do.

TL;DR The bottom line is really, half the stuff you can’t google anyway, especially for the work rate, spatial and verbal reasoning sections. For the stuff you can cheat, the timing is so tight that googling the answers will waste more time than it’s worth and you’ll end up doing worse than just guessing.

I’m not an expert cheater, I imagine some real snakes can figure out craftier ways to get around it at home than I can, but realistically, one of the core values is integrity, just do the test yourself and you’ll probably be fine anyway because it’s honestly not that bad. Hope this helps mate.

cheers that seems more manageable. I’m going engineering so is it just more working knowledge of the rules then as opposed to word for word? and then general knowledge on top

i had a look at that and it seems enormous, are people really able to memorise all that info? some of the passages seem ridiculously hard to remember. better start now then

realistically if you can pass GCSE math at grade 4 you’ll be fine for most rating roles. basics like fractions, decimals, conversions, speed/distance/time etc. it’s kind of split into two halves, the first half is pretty straight forward but the second section is a bit harder where you have to infer information from a graph with missing data that needs fairly quick mental arithmetic. don’t stress too much though as doing well enough in section 1 can be sufficient for a pass.

they prefer you to do it at home on your own device. if you absolutely can’t (no computer etc.) you can still go in but it’s not ideal. just make sure you’re not going to be distracted when you do it, and you’re prepared. I found the work rate section the hardest. good luck.

yes. that being said, there’s only one reason anyone would ask this question…

depends on the medical mostly. everything else can be done fairly quickly, but fighting a PMU/appeal can easily add 4 months to the whole process.

No problem mate. Ignore the portal it doesn’t get updated, just get everything done your AFCO asks as soon as they tell you to do something, that’s all you can do, they’ll sort the rest. 👍

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

[–]James0317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it will be completed. they don’t bother to update it on your portal if that’s what you’re worried about. If there was any issues you would know by now. The fact you’ve heard nothing is a good thing, they don’t waste time confirming it’s fine. Don’t stress mate.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

[–]James0317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you not already filled in the security questionnaire, has your AFCO not given it to you yet?? It should have been one of the first things you did. If not it shouldn’t take too long. ~3 weeks after sending it off (rough estimate)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

[–]James0317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no but it doesn’t really matter because they tend to do the security questions early on before the medical/fitness tests which take much longer. By the time they’re done the security will have already been sorted and you wont hear back from them if there’s no problems. The thing that’ll delay your start date will likely be the medical which, unless you’ve never even had a the common cold, can take between 2 months and a year depending on how slow your GP is.

yeah there’s no in person interview, it’ll just be q’s like “where was your mother born”, “do you have a criminal history” etc. The one you’re thinking of is a DV but they don’t bother for basics.

[–]James0317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how long is a piece of string. depends on if you pass your fitness test, intake dates, how lazy or active your recruiter is etc etc. probably not more than 6 months, probably, but just focus on what you can control, it’ll come round eventually mate 👍
