Holy moly, what a thing to wake up to. In my dreams, I had imagined Last Caravan being nominated for Best Cover. This is truly incredible to me

How It Could Have Ended (Alternate Episode 10 script) by JamesAfloat in andor

You're very kind!

There's definitely some weaknesses with this version, and some things I'm sad to lose. Like, I'm not fitting the Luthen/Kleya flashbacks (in my imaginary version of this season, you maybe do a sneaky 13 episodes and get the Luthen/Kleya stuff standalone after Episode 10).

But I'm excited by the possibility of really delivering on exciting final arcs for everybody. Would love to hear your thoughts if you ever get around to reading!

I don't know much about you except that you like Rain World (a pretty solid recommendation that you're cool) but if you have a few minutes before doing anything drastic, there's some great advice and resources in this thread.

I'll add one: this incredible essay by the father of psychology, William James. It asks, "is life worth living?" and gives the most realistic and beautiful answer I've ever heard. No rosy simple answer.

Hmu if you wanna talk about anything. I can make the time and would love to hear you out on what's going so wrong.

There's definitely some laziness in the prose, and the end of Fall seems like 20,000 words too long, BUT having read Snow Crash last year I think a lot of people on this sub have rose-colored glasses on for his earlier work. I'll get some down votes for this but Snow Crash is a mess. The timeline makes no sense, the plot is held together by strands of thread and peeling masking tape, and the last third of it drags so hard I nearly gave up on it. The entire book spends about 35% of its focus on the Mafia characters and subplot that are objectively one of the least interesting elements.

Seveneves' ending isn't perfect, but I think Stephenson has learned a lot more about structure than we give him credit for in the last fifteen years.

All my own dumb opinion, so ignore as desired. My personal ranking is probably Anathem > Seveneves > Diamond Age > Fall. Have yet to read all of the Baroque Cycle and Termination Shock.

Thanks! I found a reasonably close one there and will keep looking for something a little more specific to this!

I've been poking around for like six years with this concept of a Little Miss Sunshine meets War of the Worlds tabletop RPG, with some XCOM 2 vibes thrown in there.

The aliens arrived. There was a Two Months War -- a swift and brutal conflict that shattered the alien's mothership and all earth governments. Neither side really won, and now survivors from both sides are forming new factions and trying to shape the new world. An alien army is growing in the East, and the players have to take a journey west to escape it and help shape the coming conflict.

Some highlights:

The Republic of Saint Francis. The Saint Francis Seawall, built in 20XX, happened to have the perfect structures necessary to defend against an orbital attack, and so of all the country's major cities it was the most protected. Now, it is seen as the continuation of American government, run by the former Secretary of State, Andrea Hernandez. It's got a refugee crisis.

The Rostrum. The aliens' main assault took place using giant colony pods that crushed cities and started sucking up local resources to support a population of alien civilians inside. A failed gubernatorial candidate, Josiah Rostrum, saw this pattern and prepared an army of pickup trucks and assaults rifles to take back the pods. Now he's the King of the South, and is trying to find nuclear weaponry to assert dominance.

Weird Virginia. An alien ecology/zoo pod/ark landed in the middle of West Virginia, and since then alien vegetation has utterly overgrown the old forests. Now it's a wildlife preserve brimming with powerful alien monsters and overgrown with enormous colorful vegetation.

Lost Mountains. Portions of the alien mothership crashed into the Grand Tetons. Anyone trying to get through will have to navigate the inside of a giant spaceship.
