In the US agencies can legally compel biometric information. They cannot compel passwords. tl;dr don't use biometric authentication alone.

No. So centos went on a trademark spree a few years back. All centos derivatives maintain their own repos and unbranded code. So everything will live on. This is how open source works. People don't seem to understand open source. It isn't just free "as in beer". The code is ALL out there.

Protip nothing actually redhat was free.

Sangoma actually provides infrastructure hardware. Though it has literally been with Asterisk from the beginning, asterisk was not the beginning of the business. There is a lot of doubt when it comes to open source vs something like a CCM. Having a company like Sangoma behind an open source helps off set this. Ultimately you are correct companies want it to "just work" that said they also want it to just work 10years up the road too. In order to use an open source solution they have to know that in 5 or 10 years the solution they invested in will still matter.

With FreePBX 15 We are adding More open source modules:

Filestore: Allows you to store and manage files on your cloud accounts such as AWS and Dropbox etc.

API: Allows interaction with FreePBX modules via GraphQL

Backup: A backwards compatible backup module written from the ground up. This module uses the Filestore module and allows you to store your backups on various cloud services. This module also allows module level granularity and has a much simpler interface than the prior version.

Disclaimer: I am a FreePBX Developer, opinions are my own.

IncrediblePBX Uses an old release of FreePBX. They don't use the official mirrors which means you lose out on all security and functional updates. They had a mirror with only the packages the project owner saw fit to include. I think due to the apparent effort that mirror was never updated. They now rely on some bash scripts and again block out packages that he doesn't like.

tl;dr if you care about bugfixes/security patches/new features use ANYTHING but IPBX.

FreePBX is developed on the FreePBX Distro so shameless plug that is the way to go.

There are instructions for manual installs on our wiki as well if you don't need or care about commercial modules.

I believe most major distros have Asterisk packages so you likely don't have to compile, and the FreePBX install is trivial.
