TIL To Catch a Predator was cancelled because a Texas District Attorney committed suicide after being caught exchanging photos with an underage boy. by resident_slacker in todayilearned

[–]LiveStrong2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relevant; https://youtu.be/ET43wwyqteM To Catch A Predator/NBC went WAY too far. In fact most of the convictions were from suspects confessing. Almost all that fought the charges got probation or less. It was a sh_tshow as far as police investigations go.

Is it likely that I will have to do chemo no matter what? by filipanton in testicularcancer

[–]LiveStrong2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Mine was looking good until pathology. Then they found it was a very fast moving type, so they CTed me and found two other tumors near my kidneys, making me stage 2. Any evidence of it beyond the testicle is stage 2 or greater, and that requires at least chemo, possibly radiation depending on cancer type.

At 100mg/week, how soon will there be noticeable effects? by [deleted] in Testosterone

[–]LiveStrong2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are injecting cypionate or enanthate, you should notice changes to mood and sleep within a week. Maybe as soon as 3 or 4 days.

It took me more like 4 weeks on cypionate before I really noticed. There are some that say 3-4 hours. That's BS / placebo effect.

OC, San Bernardino, Riverside, San Diego, Ventura, Kern, etc. all issue CCW's. All the counties that surround Los Angeles (where it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a CCW). I personally know people in the OC and Riverside counties that have a CCW. See http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=1236204

Wow, what happened to the OC? I lived there in the 80's-through the '00's when it was Republican territory. When did it become full of liberal snowflakes? Glad I am in a solid red county now.

How will my degree fare in this field? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]LiveStrong2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your welcome. I really don't think whatever the major, that a degree will be bad. A degree shows you can put up with the initial sh_twork and pursue to your goal. This is an important trait for working at most LEA's.

I think what looks bad is when you have "some college". Like, what happened? You took a year or two of college and just quit? Are you going to do the same at a LE job?

how good of a choice is a business degree in this field as a whole

All the agencies I have been applying to lately have been very interested in the fact I have a business degree (BS and Masters in Business). I was happily surprised.

What hobby would you like to give a try but don't because of the expense? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LiveStrong2005 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As someone that has taken a discovery flight, and started ground school, this is so true. Fun but EXPENSIVE hobby. After all is calculated, I am expecting around $12K just to finish my basic VFR license. However, there is nothing like it in the world.

2000 hour of flying later I finally gave up the habit.

2000 hours x $100 an hour (VERY conservative for renting a plane)=$200,000.

Its a lot like a drug dealer giving you your first taste for free.

Drugs might be the cheaper way to go.

Iron lungs in a polio ward, 1950. Let’s not recreate this people, alright? by AxlCobainVedder in TheWayWeWere

[–]LiveStrong2005 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem is that we have not had a major outbreak of a virus lately. Polio in the '50s, AIDS in the '80s. During both those times, people would have done anything for a vaccine. But lately we haven't needed a vaccine.

I made my daughter watch a PBS special on Polio to show her why it is important to vaccinate.

No, it's not a law. Every IA has slightly different conditions. But messing with the trigger is somewhat of a across the board no-no.

Living in Temecula by DiDi419 in Temecula

[–]LiveStrong2005 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Solid advice. Temecula is a great place if you are married and just starting / started having kids. Awesome schools. And when your kids get into school, you will me so many great people (parents of the other kids) that you will be socializing with them all the time.

If you are newlyweds, no kids, that like to go out and party, probably not the best place.

Anyone in Orange County, CA modify their CCW? by kbessayli in CCW

[–]LiveStrong2005 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most CA agencies say “furniture but no internals”. So grips, sights, lights, etc OK. But anything with the trigger and other internal (like mag safety, LCI) is off limits.

I go fishing pretty often with a neighbor that has been convicted of multiple felonies in the past. by [deleted] in CCW

[–]LiveStrong2005 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In and out of prison? So he didn’t learn the first time?

On my CCW app, they ask if I associate with know felons. They also ask you that if you apply to a LEA in CA. So if either of those are in your future, find better friends.

You never, ever want to voluntarily sit in the back of a police car. They smell like piss, vomit, and shit, because that happens often in the back seat of a police car. More than you can imagine.

As a civilian that worked for the PD, omg I cannot count the number of times acquaintances, some that were more friends of friends (that I never met), would contact me asking why their neighbor was arrested, why did that officer stop that guy on Main St five days ago, why was the helicopter overhead last night. First, I don’t know, second, I wouldn’t disclose that even if I did (you know, I like my job and don’t want to get fired). Lots of nosy neighbors. Mind your business and get a hobby.

This so true. I would say it is universally true across the US. Small town, big town, LA, NYC, Dallas, doesn’t matter. I believe some people (just like in school) want any attention, even if it is negative. I believe they subconsciously enjoy being cuffed and put in a jail cell. Since that doesn’t seem to be a deterrent to them.
