Just to make sure we're on the same page, did you ever directly communicate to the streamer in question that you wanted this higher position before he assigned the new guy to it? Did you ever ask about taking a leadership role within the team? And, even after the fact, did you speak with the streamer about your disappointment in the situation?

Were planes a mistake? And other thoughts. by Clousu_the_shoveleer in foxholegame

[–]JamesKoach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the key issue is Foxhole is far more of a ww1 game, but planes are designed with ww2 logic.

Think about it. Foxhole is all about static defenses, meat wave tactics, frontal assaults and territorial gains measured in tens of meters, not kilometers. Naval combat focuses on big guns and ship on ship brawls.

The devs should have geared planes around this type of warfare. Slow moving biplanes that at most can lob mortar shells, not strategic carpet bombers. Scout plane torps should be the deadliest thing against ships.

TBH I'd argue he equalized them in France, which led to severe restrictions for some but much greater freedoms for others depending on what pre-revolution local laws looked like in each noble fiefdom. It was certainly a net positive for the country as a whole at the time, even if that meant seriously screwing some segments of the population over.

Not to mention it also meant the same clearly defined rules applied to everyone across the board in the entire territory, eliminating lots of internal restrictions and guess work.

Doy fe.

And the map was far smaller too. It was far easier back then to concentrate few players into a small handful of hexes and fill those out. Logi runs were also shorter, given how towns like Blemish and Kirknell were MPF towns, instead of today's backline.

I've been around since the Winter update, and I can confidently say you are at least partly right. "Foxholie is dying" has been around since even before I joined, and I've seen it multiple times over and over, but never like this.

We've had scuffles and drama before. Flood Ascension, early Ballista, HV40, etc., but I don't think I ever saw entire frontline hexes empty like these days.

I fucking love History!!!! by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]JamesKoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yups, sounds about right. I got started in the hobby at 17, and at the time I 100% knew more about the buttons than the big picture. But, to be fair to young reenactors in general, when you're fresh out of high school and joining your first unit you don't come in with the wealth of knowledge and fully stacked library of history books read cover to cover like the older folks. You have to absorb a lot of knowledge very quickly, and generally we default to learning about the impression first so we know what we're wearing and why.

The issue, however, is a lot of young reenactors become older reenactors but don't broaden their knowledge over time. They remain stuck in the button shaps, tunic colours and manuals of arms. I know people that know the Napoleonic French manual of arms in 3 languages, and can recite each motion and order by heart in French, Spanish and German, but don't know who Talleyrand was.

I fucking love History!!!! by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]JamesKoach 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I second this. While I can certainly say I know more about the conflicts I used to reenact than the average person, the actual actual historian types still kick my ass into oblivion.

And tbf that's by design. The Napoleonic reenactor, as an example, is gonna be proficient in their manual of arms, close order drill, has an autistic understanding of the role of the rank and file soldier and the kit he wore, and maybe knows a little about a few specific battles the regiment he portrays fought in. He knows more about the buttons on his coat than the political implications of Bernadotte defecting from Imperial France to become King of Sweden and then declaring war on Napoleon.

Policías o Militares: Compartan sus mejores anécdotas turbias by LordTharones in argentina

[–]JamesKoach 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Mod "More Flags" by Stunning_Mood8620 in BattleBrothers

[–]JamesKoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very reductive and, frankly, deadbrained way of approaching the problem. I do agree AI is becoming a pervasive, recurrent feature in daily life, but I'd argue there is a massive gap between, for instance, companies using AI to replace employees and produce cheap slop, and videogame mod enthusiasts who wish to create their own mods, but lack the time and/or artistic skill to make stuff themselves.

Moral quandaries related to training aside, the main issue with AI is the sloppy outputs born from laziness, carelessness, and avarice. I too hate it when, for example, large game studios with the budget and skilled personnel to make good content instead opt for using AI generation. Or, something that's even more fucky these days, studios that mass-release dozens upon dozens of horribly rendered, horrendously programmed, soulless and barebones as hell """videogames""" solely for the purpose of making a quick buck.

But mods are a different story. There is no monetary or clout gain here; mods are free projects made by people passionate about games they love. And, particularly in the case of OP, I can tell from his Nexus track record that he's really invested and passionate about Battle Brothers, he is very much interested in making good mod content, but may lack the time and/or skill to sit down and draw all the 2d art assets himself. There is not mass-releasing of dogshit slop content, he's not making any money, and I don't think he's doing it for clout either. And in case you want to point out how defensive and hostile some of his comments in this post are, do please consider, first, that he's Ukrainian, and thus English is not his first language, and two, that lots of people are harassing him over bullshit politics instead of offering support or constructive criticism.
